Post your own lyrics

I get what you're saying completely. I've often looked into learning more about actually writing music but haven't had any real opportunities for it yet, but I have been looking for something to make learning it easier. I do write a lot of stories and poetry, though, but some concepts just don't seem to lend themselves well for me. I have managed to scrape a band together though - we all had similar tastes and each had something to bring to the table so we decided to see if we could actually write some stuff together. We have been working on ideas and we've been doing decently thus far but have no actual recordings yet. Welcome to Your Home was just something I felt like writing by myself at the time, mainly to practice lyricism and get some stuff out of my system and possibly have something for the future.

But yeah, I get what you're saying and @Perun I've read far harsher things that were less beneficial. So thanks for the suggestions, it means a lot, really.

I broadly agree with what Per is saying but I do want to add that writing lyrics first in itself isn’t a bad thing. But I think it makes sense to discuss the initial idea with the musicians involved first. Of course you can’t drop a whole album on them and expect them to write music to it.

I also second LC’s suggestion to learn music. The passion for music is already there, learning the mechanics behind it and being able to create music of your own would be a huge benefit.

Yeah, that's the last thing I'd wanna do. I did send it but just to get some feedback on the lyrics themselves.

Makes sense, I'll see if I can figure it out.

This, to me, is only true if you already have a sense for putting music and lyrics together.

Also in many cases that strategy results in the lyrics being too wordy for the music.

Which is why I always try to sing through the lyrics I come up with, which helps the editing process (and helps me practice my voice).

So I this started out as lyrics for a hypothetical song and kinda turned into a poem? I'm trying to come up with a melody for it, nonetheless. It’s kinda random and slips in and out of rhymes, but it’s supposed to be about heretics.

“The Crucible”
The crucible of man
The sin twast ripped in stone
Whilst flesh lay burnt and bleeding
The hollow truth begun
The eyes of Ra lie open
And Veritas speaks in lies
While pain was forged in furnaces
Of the ancient’s holy grails

Burning along the shorelines
Cast down upon the rocks
The sirens beckon yonder
To destroy the star-strucks
A filament of wisdom
Punctured in seven spots
I have no mortal compass
For it is riddled with my rot

A forge of burning hate
The fiery abyss below
My hands behold my fate
On the path that I shall go
The right is left beside me
The truth is oft not plain
Begone ye vile beggar
Gnashing at his chain

Inferno waits for many
While Satan’s in his lair
Holding his hands a-plenty
For all those who’d had a care
And crippled, broken, forgotten mess
The archangel blasts his horn
And down to Hell we fall away
Forever and ever amen

For as we live and as we breathe
All life burns as one
Impaled bird upon the ground
The stake right through its chest
And demonic temples raised at night
To silence the tomb of Jesus Christ
Holds me down on the altar’s wings
And cast me now into the fires

A flaming chariot, a chirruping choir
And all hear the hales above
Wouldst wash these cursed hands clean
For the murder’s out of love
And all these wretched, puking souls
Shaking still through the fire
Lead me past the wicker man
Onwards to the funeral pyre

And oh! The sounds, the longing cry
The soul departs without a sigh
Into the yonder blackened wood
Underneath the solemn hood
But can I turn a cursed ear
Away from each piece of shrouded shrub
And will I wake to see the light
Or is my time now up above?

All this, too, shall come to pass
The vehicle of slaughter tramples the ground
Beating harder through the veins
Of those who lived to seek the truth
For though I try to comprehend
I shall not dare to speak or cry
For the Crucible of man was forged
In desire, guilt, and a wish to die.

Where's the chorus?
Where's the chorus?
Where's the chorus?
Where's the chorus?

Where's the chorus?
Where's the chorus?
Where's the chorus?
Where's the chorus?
Here, I wrote some lyrics with a chorus just for you:

"Inside the Abyss"

[Verse]
The soul is crying out in pain
We've seen the actions, we know the name
The spread of rot through the core
It shan't stop, nevermore
Souls were crying out in pain
Taking from the eternal plain
An afterlife is all and nothing more
And yet they try to seal the score

[Pre-Chorus]
Did you ever think about the consequence?
The only die cast left at their expense
From immortal wisdom to dying refrain
The path, the journey, it's all come back again

[Chorus]
Open the door, can you feel the wild winds blow?
Sailing the shore of where you used to go
Inside the abyss the fires are burning still
And the human heart is ripe for the kill

[Verse]
Leviathan lets it rip
A fatal blow on a sinking ship
I look about and all I see
No hand of god guiding me
The execution fields of grain
The endless fight and the endless pain
Did you know the exit light
Is burning still, is burning bright

[Pre-Chorus]
He who fights with monsters should see to it
That he does not become one, consigned to fit
And if you stare long into the abyss
It will stare back, a deathly kiss

[Chorus]
Open the door, can you feel the wild winds blow?
Sailing the shore of where you used to go
Inside the abyss the fires are burning still
And the human heart is ripe for the kill

[Bridge]
"The solar winds of hell are blowing and I'm
Lost without cause
My left side is plunged with the dagger and
There shall be no pause
What I believed and what I dreamed, it's all
Gone rotting away
And now my left is drifting about and I won't
See a new day."

[Pre-Chorus]
What makes a man do what he does?
Can any of us know or find out what was?
Is there any answer to the mystery?
Is God above controlling it all or Hellfire misery?

[Chorus]
Open the door, can you feel the wild winds blow?
Sailing the shore of where you used to go
Inside the abyss the fires are burning still
And the human heart is ripe for the kill

[Chorus]
Inside the abyss the fires are burning still
And the human heart is ripe for the kill
Look but don't touch, it spreads like disease
And no one knows what someone else sees

[Outro]
Sailing along the shore where they left the spoils and the kills
And inside the abyss the fires are burning still...

Putting Pressure Onto Me (lyrics)

He sleeps softly in his bed
Between the midst of beyond
Evidently misunderstood
Relapse unfolded

Sitting on the edge of a mountain
The wind ever slightly pushes him
As the cool water flows beneath

Putting pressure onto me
Listening cherishable fate
Distant shadows form
To create a bigger whole

She’s standing there on his doorstep
But he can’t help but notice her smile
Carries the most of autumn’s rain

“Still my heart clings to him…”

He watches the mist go by
She lets it clothe her mind
Rest assured hope remains

“While the night remains the same…”

Putting pressure onto me
Listening cherishable fate
Distant shadows form
To create a bigger whole

Blossoming in the disappearing world
Flying in a cloudy sky

Unite the two the relinquished shooting stars
Questions not a burden to them now

Putting pressure onto me
Listening cherishable fate
Distant shadows form
To create a bigger whole

Putting pressure onto me
Justifying the means
Sun is shining
And the flowers bloom today

Wondering Why (lyrics)

Not a single cause of rain
Can’t wash away the guilt now
Waiting for the love start anew
Trying to find a solution for
lighting dreams on fire
The same answer starts
dripping tears of dew

I no longer find it hard to discern hope
Lost the desire for turning lead into gold
It’s getting me to release all of my life
In circumstances

Wishing to the sun
or praying to the moon
Eclipse, at inner crossroads,
A play for the uncertain dance
If the stars can give me all I need
Saving time to reset my health
Don’t want to set up another failed romance

Feeling platinum, it’s not very different
Spring’s the harbour bringing in my true ideals
And the hardest part of becoming constant
was wondering why
Shedding my delusions of grandeur
from wondering why
In knowing that the future stays still
I can exert my will

Eight sapphires suffering
Can’t understand what thoughts mean yet
Instead causing a bitter distrust for hate
Decisions are not a fortune
And truths are not meant to be sold
It’s better to remain in doubt

One’s the game of knowing how not to be alone
Two is the harbinger, the cadence before new life
Three is envious and wants to start a fight
Four puts a stop to that and rescues happiness

Achieved the courage to remove my mask
Linked the silver connections to my lies
The ones I’ve dreamed about
For the sake of survival
Now able to let sleep my pride
It’s a testament to the lessons learned
What a curious road
Discarding needs to be unsure

Feeling platinum, it’s not very different
Spring’s the harbour bringing in my true ideals
And the hardest part of becoming constant
was wondering why
Shedding my delusions of grandeur
I’ve got the key to unlock all the doors to my heart
Justification is my escape
in from wondering why

Lightning In A Bottle (lyrics)

Voluntas invictus
Straggling across the ever foggy white
Constant changing in weighing the world
Love is the diabolus in musica
Verdant if you could capture the lightning
Before they kick your bottle away

Fate’s a lovely lady, she who holds all the stars
You shouldn’t be feisty and start singing another tune
Biding your time in the lumine sphere
Don’t begin to fret now, they’ll steal your thunder,
If you hesitate
And then they’ll kick your bottle away

It’s your alpha and your omega
When your mind starts weaving the threads
All behind the lines
You’ll be coaxed into telling the truth
Distressed damsel needs the kiss of life
And she’s feeling the fire radiates from below
Now’s your chance, try moving to the beat

Oh, planetarians, tell us
What comes up must come down
And there’s always two sides of a coin
One who throws stones shouldn’t dream in glass
If you want to play the game
Pull the card from the deck
Hopefully the tower won’t laugh at you

And then it kicks your bottle away

Orpheus’s fine now, he’s back from the underworld
Can can you not stutter, there’s no need to still be so shy
Your symphonies always encircle themselves
White doves may be a toss-up, it’s what you take out of the hat
Catch the lightning
Before they kick your bottle away

Fate loves you very much

I want to write a rock opera about David Bowie saving the planet.

I cast Lemmy, Dio, Bowie, Johnny Cash, and Isaac Hayes as the immortal pantheon involved in Earth’s fate.

Premise: A comet threatens the earth and humans on earth only have five years to live. Yes, that intentionally rips off Ziggy Stardust. The music deities quarrel over whether and how to intervene in the mortals’ fate. Bowie stands as the chief deity and narrative role.

In the opening act, Lemmy leads an exodus of 400,000 followers out of the solar system on a massive star cruiser. The song associated with that passage is performed in Motörhead’s style and entitled “God‘s Speed”

God’s Speed

Faster than a beam of light, we’ll travel at God’s speed
All aboard the mothership, we’ve got what you need
Aiming for a distant star, shot like from a gun
We don’t know our destiny but we’ll still have our fun

God’s Speed
God’s Speed
We’re all gonna be freed
God’s Speed
God’s Speed

Hit the engines, start the fire, plunge right past the moon
Leaving earth far behind us, it’s all over soon
All I ask of you my friends is bring your sense of doom
’Cause our ships’s bound for purgatory, we can spare the room

God’s Speed
God’s Speed
God’s Speed
God’s Speed

Fades into a piano interlude, fade in a slow choir singing:

Lemmy’s Children going home
Lemmy takes his children home
O’ Grandfather of all bastards
don’t leave us on our own
Lemmy’s children going home

Bowie Interlude:
Lemmy goes to space never to return
This leaves us one less deity interned
Up to us, sir Isaac Hayes, please counsel me today
Can we save these mortal souls or will they fade away?

I haven’t written the Isaac Hayes part yet, but he’ll probably fight the sun

It’s been a long time since I posted lyrics here, but I’ve never stopped writing. Here’s a little something I cobbled together tonight.

“Dancing with Angels”

I think I see them every night
As the candelight burns low
Who can tell what gods dance in darkness
The carcass of a lonely twilight hollow
Whatever drives the dawn will
Come again in early morn
But for now within the darkness
We can let our souls be reborn

Whoever brings out the demons
Must answer to the master’s call
Somewhere, you feel like you should be hurting
But the pain never comes at all
Maybe if you got away, got away
Away from the nightly force
You could see who you really are, really are
Take a different sort of course

Maybe we are meant to be
Maybe we were supposed to be more

Have you ever seen an angel
Have you ever kissed a dove
Have you ever danced the sunrise
Have you ever taken the hand of the lord above

Wherever they may beckon
Whenever I hear them call
We can dance in the moonlight forever
We can dance till no one’s left to dance at all

We have within us
Two souls, one in chains and one crying aloud
If you set free the beautiful
The damned will come to haunt you until you’re back inside your shroud
Now I know that it never hurts me
And I know that it doesn’t hurt you too
And I’ll keep walking the dawn’s path
Until this dying world is through

Like an arrow in the archer’s hand
Like a river making love with the sea
I can feel another shadow
Into our hearts it creeps
In life there is a dawning
In life there is a breath
In life there is one constant
In that life always ends in death

Wrapping its coils around us
Wrapping itself to set us free
Maybe we are meant to be
Maybe we were supposed to be more

Have you ever seen an angel
Have you ever kissed a dove
Have you ever danced the sunrise
Have you ever taken the hand of the lord above

Wherever they may beckon
Whenever I hear them call
We can dance in the dark forever
We can dance till no one’s left to dance at all

Have you ever danced with angels
Have you ever seen an angel cry
Have you ever danced with angels
Have you ever seen an angel die

Angels don’t live forever
Angels always run out of time
Angels greet us in the morning
But angels leave in the dark of the night

Have you ever danced with angels
Have you ever seen an angel cry
Have you ever danced with angels
Have you ever seen an angel die

Tell me, what will it take to move you
Tell me, why do you run and hide
Tell me, what will it take to move you
Are you just an angel scared to die

Maybe we were meant to be something
But we all ran out of time
Maybe we were meant to live forever
We’re just riding a train switched onto the wrong line

So tell me
Have you ever danced with angels
So tell me
Have you ever seen an angel cry
So tell me
Have you ever danced with angels
So tell me
Have you ever seen an angel die

You’ve got to set yourself free
Or there will be no new world to see at all
We can dance in the dark forever
We can dance till no one’s left to dance at all
