When the Rangers won the cup in '94, Mess just sat with it on the stoop of his brownstone apartment with some of his family and was letting passerbyes take a pic of it with him. Chris Drury took it to the Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport CT, where he learned to play as a youngster when he won it with the Av's in '01.

Yeah, for the Wild, they better hope they are right. They did'nt want Koivu walk away like they did Gaborik.

Letting Gaborik go was a good decision, but signing Havlat was dumb. They both may be very skilled, but they are both made of glass. They have the EXACT same problem, they get injured easily and often.

That sucks for the Flyers Faithful, but I completely understand the move. I know his best days are behind him but he had a hell of a playoff run this season.

Ilya Kovalchuk's NHL record 17 year $102 million dollar deal has been rejected by the NHL on charges of circumventing the salary cap. The NHL has contended that neither Kovalchuk nor the New Jersey Devils expect Kovalchuk to play the last 6 years of his contract. He will earn $95 million in the first 11 years of the deal, and only $7 over the last 6.

Kovalchuk has 5 days to file for arbitration. An independent arbiter will decide if Kovalchuk is circumventing the cap, or if the deal is legit. If it's legit, the NHL must honour the contract. Otherwise, the arbiter gets to fix it based on what he or she sees fit.

What...the hell... is NJ thinking?! I know players are playing well into their 40s more often, but it is still a rare occurrence, not to mention, just because a player plays into their 40's it doesn't mean they are productive points wise. This is something I've come to expect from the Islanders, c'mon NJ, get your ish straight.

They have to bridge for the future. Kovalchuk is not going to be the future star of Jersey, but they need to revamp for the future. He will produce points and help the Devils stay competive while they do that. No one knows how much longer their real star , Martin Broduer will be playing for.

They could've signed him to 8, even 10 years and still get his best hockey... 17 is just moronic, he's too old.

There are definitely some clauses in there about restructuring after so many years and buyout. After the Leafs got destroyed by bad contracts, you can be sure of it.

See, that's why the NHL rejected the deal. The last 5 years on the contract were to reduce cap hit only. The Devils basically expected Kovalchuk to retire at 40.

I am a huge Devils fan and Brodeur has stated many times that this will be his last contract. It expires after the 11-12 season. Marty turns 40 in May of 2012, so that my friends will be it.

Once the Kovalchuk deal goes thru, they should lock up Parise long-term as well and the days of "boring Devils hockey" will be soon forgotten.

He's going to be a star(Kovalchuk), but I don't see them being like those Jersey teams of 95,00 and 03. As much as I've flamed Marty, he still is one of the best ever.

Quite the movement of goalie musical chairs as of late. Chicago walked away from Niemi's arbitration award of 2.8M opting to sign Turco to a one year deal of about 1.5M. Dallas in turn signed Lethonen to a multi-year contract. The rumor mill has been spinning at full force saying Niemi could wide up anywhere from Montreal, Philly, Washington or Sharks to name a few.

It's a hometown victory lap. He's there to play in front of his childhood friends and family. Still - Modano is a great, a surefire HHOF guy, and a class act.
