Official Hockey discussion thread

hahaha good one.

I was surprised with last night alot of the so called 'under dog" teams won. Caps and Habs tonight, hopefully the Caps make Plekanec eat his word and have the light behind Halak lighting up red all night.

Screw that. The Habs are going to win tonight. I don't know if we can win the series, but Halak is hotter than Theodore - and better than him. The Habs don't have the team the Caps do, but we can still pull off an upset.

Go Habs go!

I agree that Halak is better than Theodore and Varlamov, but overall, Caps are the better team and will win in 6.

Well, there certainly won't be a sweep. We upset the Caps tonight. Overall I'm very pleased with the effort the Habs put in. Yes, there were a huge amount of shots, but remember a lot of extra time was played and the quality of shots was pretty low in general. Halak only made 3-4 big stops. Theodore had to make more.

We also shut down Ovechkin completely, and I'm very pleased for that.

Go, Habs, go!

So, a few upsets early on.  Anyone betting the Sharks don't make it outta the first round?

LOL I know! I was laughing my ass off when the Sharks lost. Just kept thinking, "Oh well, more of the same."

I caught OT of the Vancouver vs. Kings and it was pretty good. I'm glad Vancouver won, but the Kings played a good game as well. Luongo got REALLY lucking in the first 5 minutes with the puck hitting the inside of his blocker, trickling in and he was able to swat it out just in time with his catching glove... CLOSE call.

While the Caps and Pens lost, they will win the series. Sharks... tough call, they always choke.

I still believe in the Habs. I don't see why they can't win. Their top 4 forwards are working, their D is healthy, their goalie is hot.

That was an awesome way to start watching playoff hockey, got to love when your heart starts beating like your in the game. The Habs D was awesome last night and they deserved to win that game. I give huge credit to Gill for blocking shots all night, I would shit my pants if I saw green at the blueline with his stick in the air calling for the one timer. Ovechkin and the first line will get under there feet, I don't think Spacek will be able to keep the same pace against Ovi for the whole series.

What do you guys think of phoenix? I think they'll edge out the red wings.

Edit: worst part of the whole WSH MTL series is I have to listen to Mcguire every freakin night

I hate Pierre McGuire SO MUCH. I've been watching it on Versus just so I don't have to listen to that fucknut.

Montreal can win the series. I don't think they will, but I have great hope. Ottawa and Pittsburgh seem rather more matched than people expected them to be so far. That looks like it could be a great series.

The iTunes Store in the USA has 3 classic playoff games up for free right now, if you live in the States and want to watch some classic hockey I highly recommend them.

What's wrong with Pierre? I don't mind him at all, Emrick is really annoying.

I wish OTT was 100% with Kovi and Micheleck, that way my friend that is rooting for them wouldn't use that as an excuse as to why they will lose :p And it would make the series even more interesting.

Very good games and even matches so far. I'm loving this postseason

Pierre McGuire is a giant piece of shit commentator. Listen to a CBC broadcast sometime. They're infinitely better.

Hey LC whats your opinion on the officiating last night, apparently alot of people are saying it was one sided for the caps. I think its just fan boys upset that there team lost but I guess you can never really know with stuff like that.

I thought the first game was uneven. The second game was a little closer. I thought the linesmen were worse than the refs. However, I am of the opinion that Pittsburgh got two easy rides the last 2 years, and that was when the Habs weren't involved. I wouldn't be surprised if Bettman paves for the Caps.

I call bullshit. That is paranoid conspiracy theory crap thinking the powers that be "pave the way" for a team to the final. A team may win a single game due to bad officiating, but not the Cup. There is a reason they call the Stanley Cup the toughest trophy to win in all pro sports. You win it, you deserve it. Easy rides my ass. The Caps just needed to wake up and realize they are the best team in the league for a reason. They figured out they need to go up high on Halak and that Theodore is a piece of shit and while Varlamov is no better he at least isn't Theodore.
[/rant]

Lots of action today again! I am not leaving my house as the games start in an hour and go on all night.

I agreed with every single word you just said Onhell :ok:. My coach use to tell us if the refs are making bad calls dont bitch to anyone just take it out on the opposing team.

I disagree, Onhell. I watched almost every single game the Pens played the last 2 years and when I felt there was officiating issues I always felt they were favouring the Pens. I'm not saying a conspiracy, I'm just saying that I don't trust Gary Bettman enough to not do such a thing.

Wouldn't the NHLPA or the players have voiced there concerns if it was having that large of an impact? I think at least one person connected with the NHL would have tried to blow this up by now. The only bad missed call I noticed last night was when Ovechkin punched the Habs player in the face right in front of the official and no penalty was handed out. Bettman has to be one of the worst commissioner of all time for any league, I loved when he was boo'd in Montreal for the draft. I'm not sure if I've asked this before but how do they go about changing the commissioner?
