Official Hockey discussion thread

A tad disturbing now that I reread it... oh well.

So am I the only one hoping for a wings-pens rematch? Or are we hoping for a rematch of the 91 finals? :D

I think a rematch of the 91 finals would be pretty good as long as it isn't a 4-0 sweep. Onhell your post is just as good if not better then Pilau's in the SBIT History tour part 2 thread.

Rumplestilskin knocked the rebound out in front of Scott Walker. Any way I thought the Bruins were going to win that game when Lucic tied it up. I gotta pull for both underdog teams now. But on the other hand, A Pens/Wings rematch would echo another unique time in Stanley Cup History, the 84 Stanley Cup finals. A series that ended the Islander's dynasty and gave birth to the Oiler's.

Saw the Wings-Hawks game and it was awesome! This is going to be a good series, but I see the Wings taking it, unless the Hawks make the needed adjustments, among them actually letting Kane and Toews play. Almost time for Pens-'Canes!

Yes, I believe the Wings have a more seasoned team and will be back in the final, and i also believe that the Penguins will win against the Hurricanes, unless Cam Ward decides to shut the door.

The difference will be who plays better, Ward or Fleury, both teams are very potent offensively, regardless of their GF diferential (2.4 for the 'Canes vs 3.5 for the Pens).

Pens win 6-2 and the Red Wings win 6-1.... Get ready for last years rematch. I gots a good feeling the Pens will sweep and Det will finish off at home.... dun dun dun!

Really?  I don't think so.  I think that it will be closer but Detroit will win in the end, probably in 6 or 7.

I also think this potential rematch is a little too good to be true.  Joel Quenneville was fined $10,000 for saying the reffing in Game 4 was terrible...I happen to agree with him.

It was! they didn't let the players play and they were handing out 10 min misconducts left and right... all to the hawks no less. I was pissed that the announcers agreed that those actions were needed... uuuuuh, no. Detroit will win in the end, as for the pens, I'm HOPING for a sweep, but they too will win in the end.

Wow!!  Well, here we go hockey fans...something we haven't seen in many, many years: a Stanley Cup Finals rematch!!

It's not like I called it or anything :p This is going to be awesome, Go PENS! Fuck Hossa and Conklin over! :D

Surprise, surprise.  Detroit is looking like complete winners, and the Pens look like amateurs stacked up beside them.  No shock there.

What I find shocking is that Campbell rescinded Malkin's automatic suspension for instigation!!  This is bullshit.  Any other player than Malkin or Crosby would be sitting the next game, but this sends Malkin a clear message: he can do what he wants and get away with it.  I've never heard of anyone getting the instigator suspension rescinded before.  Campbell said it was because he doesn't think Malkin was trying to send a message.  Well, sure he was: if we get down 3-1, I act like a little spoiled Russian bitch.  Now he is allowed to.

Fuck, does Gary Bettman have money on the Pens or something?

There was an instigator rescinded during the Boston/Carolina series. I agree that the instigator rule is a complete joke and is only selectively enforced against certain players that Colin Campbell has targeted. My complaint is the lack of consistency. In the first 3 rounds , they called all the games tight. The  slash on Ryan Malone's stick by Marian Hossa would have been called a penalty in the other rounds, but they did'nt call it last night.  Either call penalties through all four rounds or let them play all four rounds. but Bill Mcreary was one of the ref's last night so I am not surprised that the game had few penalties.
On another note, I think that it has been a closer series than people think. The goals in the first game by Detroit were alot of fortunate bounces. So was the first goal last night. Bill Guerin's shot hit the post straight on. Another few milimeters and it would have gone off the post and in. The only bad goal Pittsburgh gave up was the Abdelkater goal. The defense should have stood him up at the blueline and Fleury definitely should have stopped that shot.

I agree it's been close, the pens haven't looked like amateurs at all. I see what I saw when they played against washington. They come in strong, they dominate, but don't get the lucky bounces, This could easily go 7 games. I'm more nervous about this series, because Det is a way batter team than anything the Pens have faced so far, but I think the Pens can come back. They need to win both games at home though. Last year that's what did them in, not being able to win both home games, so we'll see.
