Weber also had a free hand on Kessler. But it was a playoff game in OT. It would have been called in the regular season, but it was a ticky-tack call. Kessler was trapping Weber's stick.

Ovechkin got away with a couple of nast plays, sticking Roloson in the neck and an elbow in the last minute of the game. Oh well, Caps are down 3-0 and have no answer. The majority of Tampa Bay's goals are coming from the doorstep. Definitely some fundamentald defense problems going on.

Weber lifted his hand to show that he wasn't hooking, to show that Kesler had the stick pinned. If the ref was going to call anything, it should have been both players. I'd be pissed if I was Barry Trotz.

They'd been letting shit like that go all game, too.

Austria deserve to be in the B tournament next year. They were only allowed into the match after Norway were confident the win was ours. Besides, one of their players started the 3rd period with a cowardly knee tackle on Martin Ylven, sending Ylven to the dressing room for medical care. He was, of course, rewarded with a match penalty. I think he should be happy we are not playing each other again any time soon, because Ylven has a history of being vengeful.

Anyway, a very good start to the match (3-0 up after 10 minutes) saw Norway through to the main round. I guess we need to get something from both the France match and the Switzerland one to reach the semis, no matter what happens between Sweden and USA later tonight.

The Vancouver-Preds series is amazing. Though I am having a blast watching Tampa upset the Caps. I am slowly becoming a fan of the lightning. Not only do they play better as a team than the Caps, they are the underdogs, so they got my support lol.

Who the hell is Canada's goalie in the WC? I have never heard of him. I know the entire line-up except for that clown that allowed 3 goals by the Swiss... 4-3 in OT? against the SWISS? that's pathetic, hope they clean up for the next matches.

The US goalie isn't very impressive either. Six goals allowed against Sweden, at least three or four of which count as blunders in my book. Still, a solid win for Sweden. Czechs are looking good as well.

The Lightning break out the broom and sweep the Caps. Damn, guess it's back to the drawing board.

Boston came out and smoked the Flyers. Flyers were flat the entire game and the Bruins just dominated them. I don't think there will be a miracle comeback this year.
OhNell gets 50 bonus points for picking the Lightning. Nostra- Fucking- Damus.

Hit me up with your pick for the Kentucky Derby.

Norway - Switzerland 3-2! Now we are in a really good position for getting into the quarter-finals. Again we were the better team in the first period, before the Swiss took over. The second period looked like a siege, but our boys showed lots of courage in defending our goalkeeper. When we were 2-1 up after two periods I believed we could win this - and we did, despite the Swiss having a few more big chances in the last period. Our players really were willing to bleed "for King, People and Country" tonight and it paid off  :D

Al Montoya... once the toast of the US hockey program (played well for the junior team), bounced around the minors for a bit and I have no idea how he ended up with the starting job as the BACK UP to Brysgolov in PHX. Indeed, quite the disappointment at the pro-level.

James Reimer is the starter for the Leafs.
I thought "Monster" was the starter in Toronto. What happened to Toskala?

LOL, So far all my picks have come out correct as far as teams go. I haven't gotten the number of games down. I never thought Tampa would sweep the caps. I was thinking 7 games, MAYBE 6, but 4? WOW.

My call at the beginning of the playoffs for Cup Final was Boston v. Vancouver.... let's see if I can keep my streak going lol.

I would'nt be surprised if Bruce Boudreau got shown the door. All the talent and they have yet to get past the 2nd round. Yes they have questions with goaltending and need to improve defensively, but they were one of the best teams in the NHL and I thought they really improved defensively this year. But Boudreau failed to keep his team on task.

I was wondering about that... coaching in the NHL. Some teams are quick to fire the coach, but Buffalo has employed Ruff for years regardless of results and Barry Trotz has been in Nashville since its inception again, regardless of results. Is it because of different expectations? All teams want to win the cup and I'd think any result other than that is a failure, yet some coaches don't lose their jobs and others, even with good records (NJ in 2001... at least I think it was 2001) fire their coaches.

I think it's the method of choice for teams that want a quick shakeup.
There are a few that probably should get fired — Boudreau may be one — but most of the time it's cop-out.

Al Montoya is now starting for the Islanders until DiPietro stops being hurt. So, forever.

Toskala got traded around 10 times. He's now playing for some other team. Can't remember which. They brought up Reimer when the Monster was hurt, and he stole the starting job, had a hell of a run.

Toskala's not playing anywhere.  He rejected a contract from Calgary, then could not even make the Swedish Elite League.  AFAIK, he's not playing at all.

NJ fired Robbie Ftorek with 6 games left in the 2000 season. Larry Robinson took over a guided them to the Cup that year.

They tried it again in 2007 firing Claude Julien with 3 games left in the season. Lamorillo took over that time and the Devils lost in the 1st round. Let's see if Julien can find away to choke away another 3-0 lead.

After being so quick to fire guys, it is amazing that John MacLean lasted as long as he did.

George McPhee said he wants Boudreau back next season. What do they need? Thier goaltending is young and I think they are pretty good. Not at an Elite level, but they are good. They still need something on the blueline. Mike Green is an excellent offensive defenseman. Erskine is a mean and nasty defensive defenseman. Other than that, they are run of the mill. I thought that adding Jason Arnott would have given them leadership, grit and Cup winning experience enough to go deeper than they did. Don't know what they need.

They need to play as a freakin' team. Too much pressure on Ovi to be the savior every fing night, and Backstrom and Semin need to step up more in those situations. When they are not in the spotlight they play well, the focus turns to them and they wilt. Other than that their goalies need to mature, Had they kept Huet they might have made a deeper run in the last couple of years.

Ovechkin sometimes is guilty of trying to do too much. You are right about Semin and Backstrom. Although Semin was good in the first round against the Rangers.

Despite Canada fielding a young squad for this World Championship, I hadn't expected Norway to make a match against them exciting. 3-2 to Canada, with Norway putting them under pressure for the last five minutes. I reckon we should beat France fairly easy if we stay at this level on Monday.
