They have Erik Ersberg today, he plays for the Russian club Salavat Yulaev.

Sudden death over, the match goes to penalties. Norway wasted a glorious chance with two men against Ersberg ... he made up for himself a bit there.

I know Ersberg, he used to play for the LA Kings, but got screwed in their goalie shuffle between Quick and Bernier.

Norway winning would be good.

YES!!! FUCKING YES!!! We win the penalty shootout 2-0 and thus the match 5-4!!!

I think I'll have a wee brandy to celebrate.

By the way, this is the first time Norway beat Sweden in a tournament match in ice hockey. Ever.

True. During yesterday's match, the commentator mentioned that Stockholm alone (a city with one million people) has more ice rinks than the whole of Norway.

For some reason, ice hockey is only popular in the area of Norway where I come from (Eastern Norway, where it is cold and dry during winter and easy to play hockey outdoors) and in some of the main cities. Other winter sports are much more popular here.

As with all things, the better Norway does, the more kids will get interested. There's been some NHL calibre-kids come out of Norway recently. We can hope it gets bigger there.

Yes, but we also need to get better infrastructure. It doesn't help getting kids interested in ice hockey if they have to move in order to find a team to play for ... if an 8-year old needs to move in order to play hockey, he will do something else instead.

Hopefully more Norwegians will "wake up" and realize how great this sport is, so we can build more rinks and have more people playing it.

A victory like this is where it starts. More people will look at ice hockey rinks as a public works project, and that will lead to kids getting it done. If you want to learn more about it, look at the hockey dev. in the city of Houston, which came about based pretty well only on Gordie Howe.

I learned to play not only in a barn, but also on the river when it froze over. Also played in the street, parking lots, basketball and tennis courts.

So Tampa Bay is making look like a prophet right now. Either the Caps wake up, or it will be Tampa's series to lose. Hate to say I told you so, but... I told you so :D

Bruins tonight!!!

I wish the IIHF tourney wasn't so early :( I miss the games because I'm at work.

Wow, the Capitals are down 3-0. Is Boudreau done as coach if they can't comeback? I'd like to think not, but this will be another year of coming up short. They beat the Rangers, but the Rangers were by far the weakest team in the playoffs. Tamap Bay with Lecavalier, Stamkos and St Louis, plus their 3rd line running a 1-3-1 have just completely frustrated the Caps and Ovechkin in particular. Guess we have a San Jose like team in the East.

The Caps have a goaltending problem. They don't have anyone who can get it done between the pipes, same as Philly. Neuvirth played well through the first round, but he's been kinda shaky here. I think the Caps have a suspect defensive core as well.

Preds continue to stymie. That hooking call on Weber was pure bullshit.

Comfort yourself with knowing that when they are played in North America, the late matches keep us Europeans awake half night  :D

Nah.  He had his stick horizontal across Kesler for a good five seconds.  Don't know how you can't call it.

Holding the stick on Kesler. The stick got scooped up by Kesler and held under his arm. It could have been 2 to each, I would have been OK with that.
