What is the Champions League? And who really care about it anyway?

(I am appaled by United's two performances against Basel. With the exception of the last five minutes against Mansour Al-City, these two are by far the worst United have done this season. I'm not looking forward to the Europa League, although it is a good opportunity to let some of the younger players get more European experience with less at stake).

The games were rigged, I'm pretty sure about it.

Galatasaray beat Fenerbahçe 3-1 yesterday (actually the score could have been 8-1 or something, Galatasaray dominated the match), I'm pretty happy currently

I'm happy United lost, because I made a solemn promise to my friends not to see the final if it's United against Barcelona again, and now there's no chance of that. Let's hope the two Spanish all-star teams bite the dust soon as well (let a guy dream, will you?). Surprised to see United playing that badly though - before the match, I was certain they'd make it.

Even more happy to see the billion dollar City project crash. I'm starting to develop a soft spot for this incarnation of Napoli - it's a really fun and interesting team.

Ah Man Shitty...just like you Shadow, I'm glad to see it implode upon itself and the more worthy team (Napoli) make it through. Surprised the English teams aren't doing so well, but that's a good thing I think, means we'll get to see some more unusual teams from other places instead of always the same 6 teams or so.

I do.

Could be. Croatian football is one of most corrupt in Europe.

Who knows. Anyway, I´m afraid UEFA won´t look into it that much.

Dinamo Zagreb finished with the worst goal difference in the history of Champions League.

Worst for Dinamo perhaps but Liverpool beat Besiktas one time with 8-0.

Vidic out for the season

Manchester United’s bad week has just got worse, with Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealing Nemanja Vidic will miss the rest of the 2011/12 season.
The Serbian centre-back was stretchered from the field during United’s 2-1 loss to Basel on Wednesday night, a result that sent the Reds tumbling out of the Champions League.
Vidic left the stadium on crutches and his agent revealed on Thursday night that the defender had “suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament”.
Sir Alex, speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday morning, confirmed what United fans feared most.

“We thought it was a bad one,” he said. “He’s out for the season. It’s not unexpected but it’s still bad news.
“He’ll see a specialist on Monday to work out the progress of when he has the operation. It won’t be immediate as we have to let the swelling come down.
"We'll now have to choose between Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling [to fill the gap]. I thought Rio had his best game of season on Wednesday. His experience will be vital.
"[Losing Nemanja] is a loss and we missed him in the early part of the season for five weeks with his calf injury against West Brom.
"He's such a dominant character, particularly his defending in the penalty box. That's always a strong feature of his game."

Unfortunately, I think that now they have no chances of winning the title this year :S

They're having a pretty bad run at the moment and they are still second. Should they pick themselves up, then it is still possible. That's not to say I believe they will (or even want them to) win, just to say they still could.

I saw that. Fuck it, that's a massive blow. However, I think the team will cope. There are signs of Evans improving again, and if he can reach the level he had in the 2009-2010 season he's good enough to make a great mid defense with Rio. However, Vidic has been the stabilizing factor in defense in every game he's played. Much more so than Rio. The rest of the season will be a big test for Evans. I hope Fletcher or Carrick soon can find form, so that Jones can once again be used in defense.

I'm really worried for Vidic's future now. A cruciate injury at the age of 30 can mean that he'll never reach his best level again. I hope United are as patient with him as we were with Hargo (that's Owen Hargreaves, for those who didn't know).

It makes it harder to win the league, but still - I can't see City keeping their current league form for a whole season. It just doesn't happen. Not even the unbeaten Arsenal team of 2004 had such a form for a whole season.

Which shows that City don't need to keep their current league form to win the title.  :D

I will be surprised. Lsu can turn on the burners at any given time. Im not actually sure on who the Tigers 3rd stringer is but he cant be any worse than Jarrett Lee. Many tiger fans that i know were calling for his head but know that they are winning that has kinda got swept under the rug. Gonna be a great game regardless. I hope an equal amount of tickets are distributed to each team.

Lsu? Tigers? 3rd stringer? Jarrett Lee? - sounds like you're in the wrong football thread! ;)
