The new ESPN power rankings:

1. Steelers
2. Ravens
3. Jets
4. Falcons
5. Colts
6. Patriots
7. Bears
8. Packers
9. Saints
10. Chiefs

Now I'm a Cheesehead, but even I'll say Packers aren't a top ten team. Too many injuries and no run game.

Chiefs will be around 18 by season's end.

I don't think we have enough 'umph' to win the AFC West.  However, a close second is in sight.

5 of the top 6 are AFC teams.  Atlanta seems miles ahead of everyone else in the NFC too, though the Saints may still be a sleeping giant.

The NFC doesn't seem to have a plethora of strong teams at the moment.  The East is weird, and in disarray, the south has two of the strongest teams (ATL, NO), the West is a joke, and the North is just backwards from what I expected.  I don't think the Bears are a deep in the playoffs team; the Vikes aren't gonna make the playoffs if they can't muster better than Monday night.

AFC, the Jets could be really good, they keep winning.  Pats will always be tough, Indy...I think they have to get better, but that whole division is gonna be tough.

I can't help but think that the AFC North is going to have at least 2 strong playoff teams come out of it.

Baltimore and Pittsburgh, I agree. The west is open for KC to take it. I don't think my new "home team" is going to be as good as advertised.

SD is one of those teams that I can see putting on a string of wins.  They can take 2 against Oakland, 2 against Denver (i don't see Denver better than 8-8)... KC has the ability.  If they can win against Houston this week, they will have a strong lead in the West-- but who ever comes out of the west won't stand up to NYJ, Indy, or Ravens/Steelers-- thats the power in the NFL right now.

I haven't gone back and checked this, but the Chargers are, I think, always really strong in the second half of the season.  And then Norv Turner figures out a way to lose in heartbreaking fashion in the playoffs.  Wasted will remember the agony of the Schottenheimer years in KC, and he seems to have brought the curse with him when he went to San Diego.  (don't get me wrong, I still prefer the Marty years to the Herm Edwards fiasco).

Oh, yes, I remember many strong seasons that ended in disaster.  13-3 seasons that ended in the first round. I stood in 4(o) weather, in snow, watching a 13-3 season with Bono at QB end in a 10-7 loss to the Colts.... ouch.  Marty was the man, just didn't have that playoff luck.

To Deano, out on your ship: looks like the 'Skins are doing a bang up job, really.  Lots of close games, but looking pretty good in their Division.

@cfh, in your resort:  I hope you saw this game, cause we are in week 7, and have matched our win total from last year, as well as taking a nice lead in the AFC West!!

To the world:  KC is a team that is making me happy!!  We have had a lot of ugly years lately, but this has been fun (even in the losses) to watch!

I caught most of it.  Chiefs should have won big, but I'm happy nonetheless.  They are indeed fun to watch, and the rest of the division is circling the drain.

Davis is already insane.

No, Al Davis is legally dead.  He's being propped up in the owner's box like in Weekend at Bernie's.

I think the Raiders may be for real.  Particularly if Louis Murphy gets healthy again soon.  Run-DMC has emerged as one of the best running backs in the league.  And the defense has been playing great lately.  The good news for teams like my Chiefs (the official NFL team of Maidenfans?):  Jason Campbell eventually will single-handedly cause the Raiders to lose a game or three down the stretch.

Not while one of the moderators is a Cheesehead. :ninja:

The Raiders do this every year. They look crazy good for 2 or 3 weeks, maybe 4 ... then collapse again.

Just like how the Chargers always go on a tear in the 2nd half of the season. And the Broncos collapse down the stretch, either missing playoffs they should have made or choking in the first round.

I say KC sweeps the AFC west.  The Raiders will implode next week, playing old Raider-ball, and a pass interference on the Raiders at the end of the 4th will allow Succop to make a last second field goal to win 23-21.

SMX, the Pack is gonna win the NFC North.  Bears collapse, Vikes will probably be without Favre for at least 3 games and finish 6-10.  Bears will lose 4 straight and be out of it in 3 weeks.

Deano is gonna be in a fight over in the NFC East-- that will be a mad division (other than the giant Cowboy collapse).

I have no misguided belief that the Redskins will do anything but finish 3rd in the division. There is some kind of mad cow disease in the air of DC that turns hall of fame coaches into bumbling idiots. Maybe it's just being too close to the political madhouse that DC is. Cardiovascular health? Please! Come on Bears fans, support me; can YOU think of any reason to EVER put Grossman in? Especially instead of McNabb. We will finish the last 8 games 2-6.

Yes Wasted, all you have to do is count on Campbell to sabotage the Raiders and secure the division for the Chiefs; he is one hell of an athlete but his pumpkin has its innards scraped out.

Shanahan was never a hall of fame coach.

He won 2 Super Bowls with John Elway, Terrell Davis and Shannon Sharpe. When the talent left, the Broncos tanked. Except for one AFC Championship (which Shanahan lost at home), all of Shanahan's post-Elway teams either missed the playoffs or choked in the first round.

Shanahan usually delivers a good run game. Anything more depends on talent.

Agreed on both of the above posts.

Shanahan is doing a wonderful job of letting the East slip away.

Well he IS a good coach, come to think of it, he IS a coach.... looking at you Zorn! My point being; I am convinced there is poison in the air in Washington. It's name is Dan Snyder!
