Official American Football Thread

Maybe Maiden will tour North America in July and we can see about going to an Alouettes game at the same time, if we do the Montreal thing, and then you can explain to me in great detail what the differences are while I examine the only interesting thing in the field: my beer.

HaHa!!  Yeah, that sounds about right.  As long as the beer is Canadian, it sounds like a game to me!

I think that I have it figured out in my head.  The weaker talent pool (with no disrespect intended) has kinda evened out the game-- the defense seems to negate the offense more, because you don't see as large a field of dominant offensive stars.  I don't know if that makes sense out side of my head, but I think that an 'average' defense is usually better than an 'average' offense.

Me too- Brees.  I picked him up 3 years ago, and I get one keeper a year.  Bingo.

I'm thinking 34-28 Saints

I had Brees last year, who was great -- BUT, that abysmal Saturday night game he had against the Cowboys last December killed my fantasy playoffs, even though I had the best team in my league last year.  This year I drafted Rodgers.  (No keepers in my league -- we do an auction draft.)

EDIT:  That said, Brees just threw a TD in the first two minutes of tonight's game.

Yeah, he is looking pretty good.  The problem will be, if the Saints win the South too early this year, he'll be worthless in my 'playoffs'.  For me, last year did well, because he had to play some at the end ( we have two rounds of playoffs, the last two weeks of the year).

You were way off! Damn Vikes and those penalties just killed them. The OFFENSE had a pass interference?! :wtf:

I cannot wait for tomorrow. In LC's terms, it's clog-poppin' time.

I work in a 2-person warehouse. There's me and my boss. She was on vacation this week. HR was supposed to arrange a temp, but the incompetent twat fucked up. Further, the week after any holiday is hell at my job. So I had double or triple the workload, and no help. Every part of me aches. I need to sit on a couch, watch football and recuperate.

Pretty good college football Saturday, good vibes throughout the cornfedhick homestead today:

-Stanford took UCLA to the woodshed, 35-0, at the Rose Bowl.  Boom goes the dynamite.
-Kansas made up for an abysmal showing last week by shocking 15th-ranked Georgia Tech.
-Notre Dame lost in gutwrenching fashion.  <Evil chuckle.>
-Even Lady Cornfed is happy, as her Texas A&M Aggies won big.

All in all, nothing to complain about.  Wasted and his coworkers must be pleased by a big Iowa win, too.  However, just a tune-up for the big show tomorrow.

Speaking of poppin' clogs, ESPN's "Mike and Mike" show posed the following question to their viewers/listeners:  "What, if anything, do Americans love more than football?"  They concluded that the correct answer was "nothing" -- not even money, sex or cars (though money was pretty close).  I can't say they're wrong.

I think Denard Robinson just won the title of My Favorite Non-Stanford, Non-Jayhawk College Football Player.

I'd give a good "+1" to that!  What a game he played!!  I switched to that one from the Iowa game (what a blow out).  And, yeah, the whole building will be pretty happy with that one!

And, I love that poll.  I think, all in all, that is a pretty correct statement-- love me some football, and I can't wait for noon (central time) to arrive!!  I don't know what it is, but there is something ultra exciting about opening day, opening kickoff-- and I'm gonna be pretty upset if the NFL can't find a way to workout this CBA before next summer.

Montreal beat Hamilton 27-6; Hamilton is really one of the worst teams and just can't hold a candle to Montreal. The Alouettes were even using their 2nd string QB as their top guy is injured.

Its hard watching those games, isn't it?  Like watching Washington or Pittsburgh play the Leafs  :D

In the NFL, Detroit (IMO) is by far the worst team in the league.  I think they have won only 2 games in the last 2 years (both those wins coming last year).  Many people have stated that if Detroit played a game against Michigan (the college team), Michigan would win.

2 1/2 hours til kickoff!!  Can't wait!  (and I'm going to a nephew's b-day party in the middle of that...)
Keyshawn just picked KC to win the AFC West.  :uhm:

I dunno.  I love them, and I would love to see them win the West, but really?  I'm not drinking that kool-aid.

It would have been an exciting 4th if the Alouettes hadn't gone into it up 17-6. But when you are just a casual football fan it's hard to get excited for one really really good quarter of play when the game is essentially decided.

I pick the complete opposite of you on both SMX. Philly will be too tough with Vick and Cincy is too disfunctional for obvoius reasons. I actually pick the Ravens to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl this year.
