Well, you've pretty much cracked open the mind of an average person in today's world. Sure, gimmicky advertising has shortened people's attention span, but when you think about it, they're not a very hard crowd to please.

I always fell asleep during 2001 and 2010; that's probably because they start of slow, and they're always at about 10 or 11 pm during school nights, when I'm pretty much exhausted after 7 or 8 hours of school + 1,2 hours of homework...

How can you say that? [!--emo&:(--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/sad.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'sad.gif\' /][!--endemo--] It connects the films and Hayden's really good as anakin in this one. Much better than the previous. The plot could easily exist in this world. A leader who tries to conceal the power through manipulating the people and the parlament itself and tricks everyone. The plot isn't bad. I mean the siths are seeking power and and tries to turn the ones he has influence on against the good guys. I really love this movie, but of course this website is democratic so everybody has a free will and are allowed to say whatever he or she thinks about the subjects. But watch the film again. Youll find that anakin is being torned constantly between the jedis and the siths.

But seriously, Cinematography, the camera movement, the DIALOGUE, character development and plot seemed more important back then than now.

I think you misunderstood me slightly. I think 2001 is a very impressive movie and I'm generally a fan of movies with slower tempo which often creates much more atmosphere. I enjoy many older movies for exactly the reasons you mentioned - that more work was put on the storyline, characters and camera angles than effects - and as for big explosions I think I'm one of the people here who enjoy that least (hence why I hated Star Wars III). Truth to be told I find action scenes in general quite boring in most cases.

well you're right shadow, it was only a slight misunderstanding but I just had to rant that because well... it's been on my mind for a while.

Anywho I saw Chicken Little last night and while it has little to nothing in common with the orginal children's story it is still very enjoyable and funny. They even poke fun at themselves (by themselves I mean the hollywood industry) which again it is amusing. I give it two turkey legs up!

Still well worth seeing though if you haven't already!

That's a really pathetic plot about a killercomputer. What's the point? I'd rather go see the doom movie. I know that people loves it and all that but....well I didn't like the plot.

Oh, so that's what it's about - a killer computer! And here I was, thinking it had a deeper meaning [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/rolleyes.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'rolleyes.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Wow, this is really one of the most narrow-minded and disrespectful posts I have ever read. I must honestly say that you have no clue what you are talking about. Did you turn your brain off while watching 2001?

While it is indeed comparable to what I would expect from an IMBB poster, that doesn't matter. It is just a statement of ignorance.

If that's your summary of 2001, you're even more stupid than the rest of your posts led me to believe. [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/huh.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'huh.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

I now think we're going a bit harsh on him, though. You see, he is fifteen. I remember how I was when I was fifteen. With all the hectics in this world today, it is even harder for a youth to stay patient. 2001 requires a lot of patience. Maybe it really can't be understood from a present-day point of view anymore.

I saw that film for the first time when I was 12, as part of my English course for school. I was gobsmacked by it and fascinated by all the messages and possibilities it conveys. Don't give me that shit about "he's young and kids have a short attention span", will you? Some have a brain and use it, others are like chives (or German police)... green and hollow. Well, even if this discussion has done nothing else, it's certainly made me want to watch 2001. I do have this film, but never got round to watching it. Maybe tonight would be a good time, so I can come back tomorrow and share with you my own views on the film.

Thanks guys! [!--emo&:)--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/smile.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'smile.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

P.S. By the age of fifteen, you should be able to watch and appreciate meaningful and thought-provoking films, books etc.

to get this back on track.... I Saw "Capote" a bio pic about Truman Capote, a really famous author of the 1950's and 60's. He had written "Breakfast at Tiffaneys" and was friends with Nell Harper Lee (to kill a mockingbird) and other very famous authors of the time. It focused on his non-fiction book "In Cold Blood" about some murders in Kansas. If you are looking for explosions this is not your type of movie.

Also saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Here is the only time I thank hollywood for making movies based on books because I refuse to read them, and the movies are pretty fancy looking. I think fantasy based movies are taking full advantage of today's CGI (good CGI in most cases) and it makes them that more believable and able to submerge yourself in the story. Having said that the movie aside from the graphics was ok. If you are looking for explosions... there's dragons, that's fire right?

Legend of zorro was suprisingly good, I thought they would pander more to a children audience ( a la Episode I) but found it no more family oriented than the first. Enjoyable and never boring. If you are looking for explosions THIS is your movie (I remember three big ones.. there might be more).

I watched Stanley Kubrick's The Shining last night. It was truly an amazing movie. Sure it was slow in places, and the main actress was horrifically ugly, but it was a true thriller. You could really see how Jack descended into insanity.

Jack Nicholson is possibly the best actor of his generation, and this movie proves it. Especially at the end, when he's going batshit insane. Just wow. Although this movie is not faithful to the book (less so as it progresses, the ending is almost entirely different to the book), it's still worth watching in its own right.

Speaking of slow-paced films... I really like them, as well as no-musical-score films, as long as both characteristics serve a purpose.

I saw one like that the other day. A breathtaking dark film by a young Hungarian director Benedek Fliegauf, entitled "Dealer". You have guessed it, it depicts one day in the life of a drug dealer in modern Budapest. But rather than being another standard anti-drug statement, it subtly tells us about the personal tragedies of the dealer and his customers.
As I said, there is no score, virtually no dialogue, and the pace is excruciating. It goes well with the urban setting to create a perfect grim atmosphere. Notably the last scene:

The dealer decides, in the early morning hours, to kill himself. He goes to the fitness studio he owns, undresses, gets inside one of the solarium banks and closes the lid. It gets dark and the only thing we see, in complete silence, is the blue light from underneath the lid, forming a stripe across the screen. Then, the guy's hand appears, hangs out and becomes motionless. The blue streak then becomes smaller, and smaller, until it disappears in the distance and we are left in darkness. The End.

(No, I'm not doped [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/rolleyes.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'rolleyes.gif\' /][!--endemo--] )
