I've noticed that many young people aren't scared by The Exorcist nowadays. Perhaps they can't understand the impact this movie had 20+ years ago when no one had seen anything like it before. For those (like me) who saw it way back when, it remains the scariest movie ever made.
One of the most important factors in being scared by The Exorcist is being brought up Catholic and believing the theology which is behind the story. Your derision was unfairly directed at Onhell, who happens to hold just the right religious beliefs for this movie to scare him. I myself was Catholic when I first saw this movie, and that was also a major contributor in my being scared by it.
I'd also recommend reading the novel upon which the film was based. In my opinion, the book is much scarier than the movie.
