I'm with Prowler, fuck him. What an idiot. I recently purchased a used copy of Garage Inc. in which it states when Hetfield went to Ulrich's house he would make tapes of Ulrich's vinyl collection... That they made there name in the "underground" tape trading scene and Lars had a subscription to this catalog that would mail him some of the most obscure shit that did not survive the filter of Time. Now they are blasting new ways of doing old shit. Streaming, itunes hasn't destroyed music or people's motivation. NEVER has music been so accessible and easy to share. I youtube full albums before I decide to purchase. It has made me a SMARTER CONSUMER, because I am not dropping money on a gamble.
He sounds like a fucking 80 year old saying, "back in my day!" "Damn kids today!" "Things are not like they used to be!" Well... Of course not you old fart! Whether they are better or worse is subjective. All I know is CDs are no longer 20-25 dollars unless they include a DVD and even then they rarely break the 22 dollar barrier. I've seen bands put MORE effort into their CDs offering extra tracks, interviews, DVDs with documentaries, 5.1 surround sound, Interviews, etc.
Finally, I guess he has never heard of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, a band which has successfully adapted to every new medium of distribution. From vinyl/tape to CD to the MP3 age. Every RHCP CD release has AT LEAST 17 songs. Why? Because they could fit that many, they weren't going to cheat people with just a 10 song effort and call it a day. Not to mention it is 17 GOOD songs, hardly any filler. With the download era? Stadium Arcadium was a DOUBLE CD (40 fing songs man!) Each worthy of being a download. So you didn't have to buy the whole CD, but if you liked a particular song you had many to choose from. So fuck you Grandpa Hammett.
