METALLICA: Yes, We Are 'Beliebers'

Metallica has always been a confusing band to me....the first three albums they produced were absolute perfection, and then produced some of the most vile crap I've ever heard (St. Anger, Load & Reload, LULU, anyone?)

I like Load and Reload...You could argue though that it should have been only one album..

His last solo album was 2007 or so but Lulu last thing he did yes. I haven't even heard that album yet...I think all the negative criticism is scaring me away, but I have to form my own opinion one day :D

I have to give credit to Lars for sticking with that album, despite the negative reception. I didn't like it, but I'm open to bands experimenting and I hope they don't regret it.

I think that work was different than actual "music album". Apparently it was a narrative of a set of plays and the music only acted as a backing. What is disappointing about Lulu was the lyrics because it was a lyrical, spoken word kind of album. Truth be told, I don't know what the plays were about but the lyrics are just...weird. And I'm into weird writing.

The band constantly said they were proud of that album and it gave them a new way of seeing things, giving them new heights. If it is actually the case, I say good for them for doing an experiment like that even though many people, including myself, didn't like the product of it.

I actually know the play the album is based off of quite well, because it was adapted into one of my favorite operas by Alban Berg, "Lulu". And let me tell you, it's still weird and disturbing. But the music of the opera is phenomenal.

So when I first came across this album I was actually pretty intrigued, and decided to give it a fair shot despite the rough criticism because I'm an audiophile who's able to appreciate all sorts of music. The ear rape I got was not well received, and it's hard to really see how this simplistic, mind-numbing sort of music really broadened their horizons. But hey, if it works for them that's good.

Since the story was quite disturbing, maybe the point was to disturb the listeners with the music as well? :p
