Metal with female vocals

But if you say L7 - you have to say Bikini Kill too...(and actually a whole bunch of other great grunge punk girl bands)

True, I mainly picked L7 because I saw Bricks are Heavy in a record store and I have been playing it a fair amount lately. Not that they were the greatest band, but Cycle Sluts from Hell had a decent CD and a great music video

They are a good band, "grunge and great rock riffing" is a really good description. I am listening to the LP "Bricks are Heavy" right now

My favorite of theirs. Possibly their best.

They were great friends with Nirvana at the time (Kurt and Courtney just hanging out on stage). Probably at the peak of their career:

Bricks are Heavy is a great purchase. Love that album.

The Donnas are worth mentioning too here. Not metal...but a great all female band.

The Donnas are a good call, probably more of a straight up 70s rock band, but really good musically, they have a lot of talent. I have Gold Medal and Spend the Night (autographed) on LP from them

Edit: I mean 70s-style rock, they came around later than the 70s

Yeah but they are part of that group of girl bands who came after L7 and that whole grunge era of girl bands...and who picked up influences from both the grungy bands and the 70s hard rock bands like Heart etc....and then mixed it all together.

I agree with that, my point was I hear more traditional rock in The Donnas than I do in a lot of other all girl bands of that era. A decent amount of Donnas music (some production changes aside) could have been released from 1978 to 1984 and fit in along bands like Kiss, Van Halen, etc). Just good straight up rock music.

I saw Joan Jett last year (part of a city fest ... her and Cheap Trick were the main bands), she puts on a really good show still. Cherry Bomb was played

Good stuff man. And you can't forget about Hole/Courtney...Whatever people might think about her ( good or bad. Her early music is ESSENTIAL female singer grunge. The Donnas probably also worshiped her. Just check last link.

OK now we're really on the fringes of "metal" but I have to post this. This is one of my favorite grungy tracks. Also Kim Gordon = babe <3

"Cannonball" is great but the album is a disappointment. Big step down from the Pixies.
Big fan of Joan Jett too, even though she's essentially a covers act.

None of this stuff is metal, however. If we keep going down this road, I'll hijack the thread and turn it into another Pat Benatar rant.

EDIT: Aw, fook it.
(turn it up)

Saw Sister Sin supporting U.D.O. last weekend. I was impressed, they delivered a great performance and had strong material - it was only the guitarplayer who was a big letdown. This type of metal needs strong lead work to complement the vocals.

I saw them opening for Doro once. The music isn't really anything I'd go out of my way for but they put on a fun concert.
