The Maidenfans Mod Council: A Forum in Flames

The meeting had been called under the strictest emergency conditions, which, in the world of Maidenfans.com, meant that one of the political threads had, once again, descended into a full-scale s*** storm.

The moderators gathered in their sacred space—a private channel on ModCord, the forum’s official messaging app—each arriving with the solemn resignation of janitors called to mop up a flood of sewage.

IronThrone77: Alright, people. We’ve got a problem.

Eddie’sLeftSock: Just one?

Killers1981: Let me guess. The "West vs. East" thread again?

IronThrone77: Bigger. "Freedom of Speech vs. Forum Rules."

A collective digital groan rippled through the chat.

PhantomMod: Oh, for the love of Steve Harris. Not that one again. I thought we locked it.

StratocasterKid: We did. They made a new one called "Why Was The Other Thread Locked?"

Eddie’sLeftSock: And when we locked that one?

StratocasterKid: They made "Censorship on Maidenfans???"

Killers1981: Oh, bloody hell.

IronThrone77: Look, we have to do something. This is turning into a full-on flame war. Users are picking sides. Metallica vs. Megadeth levels of hostility.

PhantomMod: Ban 'em all. Let the gods of metal sort them out.

Eddie’sLeftSock: Steady on, mate. We’re supposed to be moderating, not running a digital inquisition.

Killers1981: Yeah, plus if we start mass-banning, they’ll just migrate to Reddit and complain about us. Again.

IronThrone77: We have to strike a balance. We want people to have discussions, but we don’t want another disaster like The Great Bruce vs. Blaze Debate of ‘22.

A hush fell over the chat. No one spoke of that day. The scars ran too deep.

StratocasterKid: What if we just let them fight it out? Survival of the fittest, forum-style. Only the strongest opinions remain.

PhantomMod: YES. LET THEM BATTLE. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD.

Eddie’sLeftSock: That sounds dangerously close to democracy, and I think we can all agree that democracy is a nightmare.

IronThrone77: Democracy is a great concept in theory. In practice, it’s 47 pages of people calling each other "sheep" and "bootlickers."

Killers1981: Alright, compromise time. We let the thread run, but we set some boundaries. No personal attacks, no conspiracy nonsense, no using "freedom of speech" as a get-out-of-jail-free card for being a raging lunatic.

StratocasterKid: So... basically, rules we already have but that people will ignore anyway?

IronThrone77: Exactly.

PhantomMod: I still vote for a purge.

Eddie’sLeftSock: And I still vote for a beer and ignoring it entirely.

Killers1981: I think we all just want to log off and listen to Powerslave instead.

IronThrone77: Alright. We keep an eye on it. We step in if it gets too ugly. But let’s try not to strangle discussion completely. We want Maidenfans to be a place for—

At that exact moment, another notification popped up.

New Thread Created: "MODS ARE NAZIS?????"

Silence.

PhantomMod: Banning them all. Final answer.

And with that, the mods logged off one by one, each contemplating the eternal truth: that running an online forum was the closest thing to hell one could experience without actually dying.

I’m going bersek with Danny Carey the drummer of Tool, to the point he has dethroned Buddy Rich from my Pantheon, look by yourself:

Live video on drums

Reaction on that video (there are dozens)

Mike Portnoy trying to reproduce it for YouTube Drumeo channel (and did quite well)

March always feels like the calm before the storm that is April. You never know what you get with that one. You can have hot and sunny days, stormy rainfall or even snow. Basically anything can happen in that chaotic month.
In the UK we have a saying "March winds and April showers bring forth May flowers". But these days we don't even see the winds until about May. I'm not convinced that that's down to climate change, I think that the cycle of the seasons may actually be slightly longer than 12 months ...

I've worked in nature based outdoor jobs in Ireland for the last 17yrs and I've definitely noticed a shift in the seasons. I've worked 10yrs in the same place and have seen changes there. I'm pretty sure autumn and spring start earlier than they used to. There's grassy areas that have started to grow rushes in the past 3yrs. There's more every year. Rushes being wet loving plants for those that care/don't know.

My guess is that its partly a natural phenomenon but the weather in each season is very probably down to man made climate change.

25yrs ago I was taught in school that climate change would lead to milder, dried autumn/winter and wetter, cooler spring/summer in my part of the world. That's exactly what I see now so I've no reason to doubt the folks down in the lab that predicted this many moons ago. I've not checked the rainfall stats so this is all anecdotal but I know what I see, ya know?

What else do they say about March, "in like a lion, out like a lamb." Sounds about right. Or is it the other way round? March has been pretty calm here so far, February was windy was fuck at times. Maybe February is the new March and the mother goddess of the earth cares not for our human calendars.

I was in a pub just now, wearing a Maiden shirt, as I do (this is an Iron Maiden fan forum, you should not be shocked), and as he left a guy at the neighbouring table spotted my shirt, and the exchange, for brevity's sake, was something like this:

Guy: See you at Waldbühne this year?
Me: Of course!
Guy: What song do you want them to play the most?
Me: Probably The Evil That Men Do
Guy: Cool choice! I stopped being a Maiden fan in 1987. I saw them at Waldbühne two years ago and they played this song I didn't know but everyone cheered at. I asked someone what it was and he looked at me weirdly and said it was called Fear of the Dark.

I'd like to point out that even one of my friends I was with, with whom I primarily share the interest of archaeology and who knows jack shit about heavy metal, smirked at that.

Well, at least it appears he was honest about stopping being a fan in 1987. He also in a way managed to communicate that most of the time since, he has been living under a rock.

Something like this happened when I saw them in 2000 on the BNW tour. The guy next to me kept shouting "what album is this off?" every time they played something post-1992.

Recently, for my bday, best friend asked other friend 'whats that maiden album he likes'? Second friend said 'long title....' I was presented with Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, which is my favorite album followed by A Matter Of Life And Death. Its always the long title albums. Also, delivered to me on vinyl which has required me to revisit analog sound delivery.
