From a medical perspective; no, it isn't.

On a more serious note; there is a link. Materialism as a way of thinking requires economic growth, i.e. a continuous growth in the production of goods and services. This forces humans to invade more and more nature.

Cancer is basically an uncontrolled and invasive growth of unhealthy cell tissue.

But I guess as an engineer I'm interpreting the question in a more literal way than intended :innocent:

It sounds like there's a big street party going on somewhere near here. There was one about a mile away that got shown on social media earlier and heavily criticised (so police have probably got to it), and another one on another estate earlier this week was broken up by police, with people being fined.

Do you have a speaker to retaliate?
I don't need or want to retaliate - they're not ultimately doing any harm and it's just for one day. Also to be fair to them they did start inviting requests from passers by later on. A fair selection of stuff ensued - Scorpions, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, Barbara Streisand, a lot of Queen (or maybe they just left their tapes in the car too long ), some UB40, Elton John, even Village People (and yes, they did go into the street and do the dance ). Most recently Soft Cell and Duran Duran. Currently Human League. It made it kind of difficult to do anything else but I don't really mind for one day. All concerned seemed to be really happy and that is priceless at the moment.

Also when they were still doing the '40s stuff one of the things they dug out was a music hall song my Dad used to sing when I was little, which I had completely forgotten about. The tune is of no importance but the words go like this:

"She was a sweet little dicky bird,
Tweet, tweet, tweet, she went,
Sweetly she sang to me,
'Till all my money was spent.
Then she went off-key,
We parted on fighting terms,
She was one of the early birds
And I was one of the worms."

Biked 80 km today. Around the half way mark I got entertainment from a plane doing aerobatics! (Part of my route was along the departure route for aircraft from Kjeller airport, and under one of the published airwork practice areas).
That's a long ride. Do you do a lot of biking?

It varies. Last year, not much at all. Some years I've had a long bike ride more or less weekly from April to October.

Still a fair bit away from 2005 though ...
Cool! I work with a bike enthusiast. He's buying a new mountainbike, and I'm buying his old one, and I've never had a mountainbike before. Got a good deal: he paid 2000 Euros 7 years ago and had the frame repaced on a warranty issue two years ago. I get it for 400. So I'm probably going to be biking a bit from now on. It's good excercise.
