Is it this: http://www.sciencebob.com/experiments/toothpaste.php ?Well, the most common way I've seen of creating that sort of fountain is any variety of diet soda + lozenges á la Menthos, but this looks different. The liquid is clear, then some brownish gas is released. Looks like a nitrous gas of some kind. Is the liquid simply nitric acid?
Another chemical reaction which is quite cool to watch, is the one between sugar and sulfuric acid. The combination of the corrosive nature of the acid and its affinity for water, makes the sugar react into water and carbon. Watch:
