I remember there was a discussion on the amigos' live playing a few months ago and Cried said that he hasn't seen Dave tapping except on Sign of the Cross (RiR 2001). Can't seem to recall the thread so I'll just post this here. Dave tapping live at 2:31:

Without looking at this (first) if you listen to NPftD (as I'm sure you're aware) there's quite a few examples of him tapping on the album; so it's not a great surprise if he was using tapping live around this time.
