Thoughts from these two games so far:

1) The Czechs should be the better team in this game and one of the best in the tournament, but their coaching has been absolutely atrocious. Absolutely. Atrocious. They have made terrible decisions, played their backups against the best opposition, made strange benching calls. It is weird, and watching the team fall apart in the 3rd suggests to me that they are not doing their best almost on purpose.

2) Latvia has some really, really tight coaching going on, provided by Ted Nolan of the NHL. They are playing an aggressive, NHL-style game instead of a European-style trap game, and it's really forcing the Swiss constantly off balance.

And as I predicted, the Czechs move through, but the way they collapsed against Slovakia in the 3rd does not bode well for them.

Here's what comes next.

1. Sweden vs. Slovenia. Slovenia has done exceptional, gaining a win over Slovakia and Austria to get this far. But I do not believe that the Swedes, who are essentially super-powered, will collapse against this small upstart country. I do think it will be close - say 2-0, 3-1, or even 4-2, but I expect Sweden will take this one in a walk.

2. Finland vs. Russia - the Finns played well against Canada, pushing the defending champs to OT, and Russia did not have a great pool record, losing one game in an epic shootout to the USA and winning one in a shootout against weak Slovakia. Russia is in danger of going out. Finland is older, but tough, and I think they'll win this one in OT or shootout - probably 3-2.

3. Canada vs. Latvia - Latvia is the little country that could. They have some good players, but nothing like Canada. No upset here, Canada will go on to the semis. 5-1, 6-1, etc.

4. USA vs Czech Republic - The USA played an amazing group stage and that's not going to change, while the Czechs were lackluster in all stages of this tournament. Americans in a cakewalk. 4+ goals for the US, 2 or less for the Czechs.

Russia also didn't impress today. They were held to 2-0 by Norway until the last few minutes, when Norway took off the goalie in search of 2-1. Finland will be a tough match for them, although I do suspect that the Russians will up their game when it's needed. The home advantage could well see them go all the way.

Sweden and Canada will win big if they get the first goal early. USA vs CZE - I agree with @LooseCannon, it's going to be painful for the Czechs judging by what we've seen so far.

Russia vs Canada in the final.

I root for Slovenia and Russia (edit: I thought they never lost an Olymoic QF but they did last time!) and think the difference between Canada and Latvia will be 3 goals max.

Any comments on Kramer? Normally I find it hard to feel sorry for someone when they've already had so much success, but today ... after what happened in 2010, it would have been nice to see him win. But this time one of his countrymen was simply better than him. Who would have thought?

Wingman: Amazing... Indeed. in the light of 2010 this is very dramatic but that other guy had an awesome build-up in his race. In the last rounds he went faster and faster. Kramer started faster but in the last eight rounds he went slower and slower....

It should also be pointed out that Bergsma also beat Kramer in the same arena a year ago, so it wasn't that shocking. But I guess that back in October, most people would think that if Kramer was going to win only one race this season, it would be the 10,000 in Sochi.

Thanks for the feels.

I get to sleep almost an hour longer tomorrow because the first lesson won't take place. That's some very needed sleep. :notworthy:

The Murder Mystery (Lyrics)

As he opens the doors to the mansion, a big smile forms on his face
He turns on the lights and we look around us
Through a window, you can see a massive dining room
As he takes us to the upper floor, he tells us to be quiet
He says
"Something terrible has happened and they who are inside one of the rooms, are still crying"
A sinister face flashes quickly over his nice and friendly face
But no one notices so it must been my imagination
After a long tour through the mansion
We go to the dining room and gets ready for the supper
As the food arrives, he gives us a speech
At the end of his speech, the room goes black
The lights are out, but as soon as they go out, they turn on again
But on the floor he's lying there, with a knife in his back

How did this happen? How did he die? And most important, who did it?

Everyone's screaming from fear, to maybe be the next victim
As everyone looks at each other, the same question is asked over and over again
"Who did it?"
In the middle of the all the screaming and accusing, a woman drops down to the ground
The same knife that killed the other guy, was now in her back
And the that other guy's body's moved

How did this happen? Where did his body go? And most important, who did it?

As everyone forms a pair, to go and look after the killer
I'm working alone, as I think it's a terrible idea,
to look after the killer
Everyone leaves the room and that's when I realize I'm scared to die

(instrumental section)

I've still not leaved the dining room from fear
Some pairs come and tell me that more people died
Then the light go out again, and everyone in the room screams
Then the lights turn on again...
And lying there on the table, the corpses of all who died
Then I feel a unbearable pain
As the world turns black

(instrumental section-fade out)
