In other news, terrorists have seized a refinery in Algeria and are holding a number of staff (several from Norway, France, US) as hostages. At least one person (his identity has not been made known) has been killed. The raid is suspected to be in revenge because Algeria are allowing French forces access to their territory in order to fight the Islamists in Mali.

I've been following the situation this morning. Latest news : BREAKING: 35 hostages and 15 hostage takers killed in Algeria as they tried to move from one plant location to another.

I hope this is not true. Waiting for it to be fully confirmed...

Bloody hell. But it wouldn't surprise me. Their demands (if true) of release of some 100 prisoners are not going to be met by Algerian authorities and so a violent outcome is inevitable. I just hope they manage to save most of the hostages ...

Yeah. It is all happening right now... There are a lot of conflicting reports happening right now on the number of hostages and hostage takers dead. Latest is six foreign hostages and eight rebels. Another source just says "many" hostages dead.

Airstrikes on a plant where the hostages are kept is also a quite dubious maneuver I think

In general, airstrikes against a chemical plant with vast amounts of flammable stuff inside sounds like something one would not like to do if the goal was to get someone out of there alive ...

So, a certain British heavy metal band confirmed their concert in Slovakia. Where the heck is Czech date? EH?!

Somehow, I have the feeling that a trip to Bratislava is not that much of an unbearable burden to you. :P

That's quite a story, Cornfed!

This Te'o guy must be either the most gullible person alive, or a complete asshole. Not even once seeing "the love of his life" over a period of two years, even when she was terminally ill? If this is a hoax, those people chose their victim well.

Seems like we have food for a research project here. The scope is easy to define - all Iron Maiden songs released on album - and for every single song, we know the main writer. We have people on the forum with knowledge of music theory, and we love Maiden's music enough to listen to it enough throughout such a project. For all I know, someone may already have done it.

Listen to every song, classify different sections of songs after key and chord progression. Also notice similarities between lead melodies. How is the ratio of "self-copied parts" to "total number of songs written" for the different band members? How often does 'Arry repeat a certain chord progression, compared to how often H or Bruce does the same?
I'd consider doing that
