I look at this from a completely different perspective. I'd never confuse The Aftermath and The Edge of Darkness melodies, although now I've just noticed how similar they actually are. It's quite interesting how "physically" similar melodies can feel completely different in a different... "context", let's say. Or maybe it's just me.

It's not just you, I felt the same way. Until today I had no clue these two melodies sounded alike. If you had asked me yesterday if there was something in common between the two songs, I'd have said no.

I feel like that atm, but I guess if I listen to the songs a few more times I'll start to hear it.

Futureal is one ace of a song, especially the riff after the solos.

In other news, terrorists have seized a refinery in Algeria and are holding a number of staff (several from Norway, France, US) as hostages. At least one person (his identity has not been made known) has been killed. The raid is suspected to be in revenge because Algeria are allowing French forces access to their territory in order to fight the Islamists in Mali.

Looong day. Finally glad to be home. Was at my uncles funeral today. Everything about it was very nice even though it was sad. A mix of tears and laughter and it was very nice to be with my family, of course. Now, it's time to relax and enjoy the rest of my day off from work.

Sorry to hear about your uncle, Moonchild. :(

On the subject of key signatures, Adrian writes in E a lot too. Isle of Avalon is mostly in E major, with some parts in E minor. Starblind is in E minor save for a key change during the chorus. (Which by the way, is the one of the greatest key changes ever. Even though it is recycled from Infinite Dreams.) I think it is unfair to criticize only Steve for the overuse of E, the rest of the writers are just as guilty. Except Janick, he writes all his stuff in D.

1 minute 10 seconds, Dave Murray. What the hell is this song, it feels sooo familiar, I even remember some of the lyrics but the name just doesn't pop up in my mind.
Alchemist. The soli before the final chorus

I know I've said indivdual 'thanks' but I figured I'd just say thank you all for your sympathies. You guys have been great and it really has helped me through it
