1 minute 10 seconds, Dave Murray. What the hell is this song, it feels sooo familiar, I even remember some of the lyrics but the name just doesn't pop up in my mind.

The fact that Dave always finds himself a spot in these kinds of compilations, lists and Adrian doesn't drives me nuts. I love Dave's playing but Adrian's playing gets underappreciated by many. Both should be mentioned in the same breath.

Having a truly rough day. Illness sucks.

The solo seems pretty much random, but it contains a melody from The Aftermath :)
Sounds like The Edge of Darkness to me.

Actually, I just heard those melodies form The Aftermath and The Edge of Darkness back to back. I'd never noticed they were so similar.

There are so many Maiden melodies similar to that one. Because it's in E minor. :p There's also an almost identical melody on The Alchemist.

Yeah, you're right about The Alchemist. When I hear these melodies I think "typical Maiden" but I've never bothered to listen to them back to back. It's startling when you realise how similar they are.

Exactly, it's the main reason I keep saying "E minor, E minor, E minor" about the stuff Steve Harris writes. It just gets old after a while.

Random quiet day at work.

I've got a pile of 30+ p/s 2 keyboards that i'm going to box up and get out of my sight.

I think pointing out the key is irrelevant. A similar melody is still similar if you transpose it a fourth up and play it in A minor instead. Would you give 'Arry credit for creativity if he made a new song that sounded almost the same as Hallowed Be Thy Name but one fourth higher?

I would agree that there is repetitiveness in the songwriting since the mid-90s, but the choice of key does not have so much to do with it. Recycling melody snippets and chord progressions, on the other hand, does.

It has much to do with chord progressions, of course. But still, the usage of the same key in similar sounding melodies make them sound even more similar.
