You too!

I hope I got a bit wiser too.

E.g., I've learned I shouldn't talk about sealhunting anymore.   :D
(I think that was about the sharpest discussion I was involved with on this forum, heh.)

I can guarantee you that was the closest I ever came to banning a member on personal grounds!

:ninja:

I think I should be banned one day. This forum is very addictive for me. In the beginning of the year I made a post that I would spend less time here. I failed. It's hard when so much interesting stuff is going on here. New members with (for me) interesting input have arrived in the meantime as well. Mix that with the oldies and we have a fine forum on which I still love reading and posting. Who knows, when we've done all the daily songs, I'll be less addicted...  ;)

I think I've made some great friends in this place, and time and time again, I've come to the conclusion that it's not worth risking these friendships in internet discussions.

Come to think of it, there is an element of paradox in that.

I started regularly posting here when a local metal forum crashed for 10 days, and now I visit this forum more than that forum. People are million times more polite here...

I've found general music forums to get very heated sometimes. I like forums for specific bands more. I joined this forum when the official one crashed.

I don't really miss it now :)

Some people think it's not always the case.  :innocent:

But we'll manage.

If I may post something else, did any of you guys forget about this A W E S O M E footage?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qR1qZomXN_s

I love to watch this, it has been a while... Cool to see the band as a unit while still noticing the individual behaviours.
It's interesting to see how the lads are aware of giving 200% for a huge audience, while at the same time they don't see that audience. And the guys are positioned in a different way as well. I doubt if Bruce liked the close-ups of him catching his breath. ;)

Yeah, we have long had a reputation for being more strict with our rules and doing our utmost to keep the climate here positive and respectful. Obviously, we've had trouble with members about this in the past, and back when the IMBB still existed, Maverick was sometimes called "Hitler" there. But in general, I personally prefer being considered a nazi by some idiots to having this place degrade.

Although the truth is, compared to Mav, we're lax.

When this forum was plugged on the official forum everyone seemed really positive about it. I think the attitude over there might have changed. It's hard to tell because I wasn't there long.

And on the page displaying the twin brother song of that "gig" I found this comment:

Paul McCartney can now say that he played in the same studio as Iron Maiden....hahahahahahaha....
.... long live the Beast

:ok:

That reminds me of general football forums. Especially around matches between big teams, that everyone has an opinion on. But then, football forums that are dedicated to one club can be quite heated, too. Team A is going through a bad spell, half the forum members want the manager sacked, the other half think they're being idiots :D

But nearly every forum I've read is civilized compared to commentary fields on newspaper websites and similar places (not to mention youtube, of course).

And that discussion about BTATS was quite hot ... it's good to see that LC and Per have cooled down now  :D

Especially places like Blabbermouth. But for some reason, this extends to quality news outlets too. What bugs me the most is that when Germans comment on news, they usually do so with sarcasm. It's always the fucking same sarcasm. Not only is saying "here's what the greatest democracy in the world doing again. The cash flow is steady, all is well." about as original as putting salami on a pizza, but everybody does it all the time. It's annoying to say the least. And here's the thing. Maybe it sounds racist, but Germans suck at sarcasm. They can't be sarcastic to save their life. That includes me - but I know it, and for that reason, I'm not even trying to be sarcastic. Besides, sarcasm is just a bad form of polemics, it's what you do when you have no arguments whatsoever but still feel the need to comment on something.

Here's a plea to everyone: Say NO to sarcasm!

It was hot but I'd rather say it was rare. These two members usually don't disagree often, at least not in such a manner.

I'd like to have something off my chest, and maybe I shouldn't bring it up, out in the open, but recently I had a "friendly warning" kind of pm from a mod who was -in my eyes- not clear in what I'd exactly done and/or what was wrong about it. My behaviour was mentioned, but I missed examples, and the whole thing felt kind of unfair to me.
The pm was done in a friendly tone, so that was good. But I missed contextual explanation and questioning.

Initially I reacted angrily because I thought it should have been explained better. A day later or so, no answer, so I thought: fuck it, I'm not going to let this spoil my fun here. I sent another pm to tell them to forget about it. As you can see, that's not always easy for me.

Moral of my story: this forum has cooled down very much, which is good. But I do not hope that mods (and forumers) react too strict on certain deviations.

If I may have one suggestion for the mods: When someone complains to you about something, and it's not about clear blunt offending, it'd be good to investigate both parties well before judgement comes. I'd appreciate that. Thank you.
