George said that My Chemical Romance was doing groundbreaking work in Japan, and I had asked him if he meant to use "groundbreaking". Then he replied as above. I lol'd. Not sure he meant it the way I laughed at it.

I'm guessing the 10th graders.

Groundbreaking  :D Now, I'd say the worst part of that is saying "My Chemical Romance" is in any way groundbreaking.

As for me, I had a bizarre comparison in guided tours. Yesterday, I led a group of 20 adolescent tenth-graders. Today, I led a group of 10 40-year old, suit-wearing academics. Guess which group was the disciplined and polite one.
I'm guessing LC is spot, but this sort of reminds me of when I was down the pub a few weeks back to watch the England v France 6 nations match. There was probably 3 or 4 40+ year olds and a whole load of people in their early twenties. What spoilt it for me was totally unnecessary over-the-top thuggish noise from some folk, so much so I had to leave and watch the second half at home. However, when any of these 40+ year olds went off to the loo or to buy a round - the noise stopped.

It also reminds me of when we see English football fans getting arrested for the violence. They all seem to be over 40.

I'm embarrassed to be in the same age group as some of these. :(

I hear that!  although, I'm not anymore.

I'd been pretty worn down, so I took Wednesday off to just goof off, and it was great!  80 degrees, sunny, breezy.... I did nothing all day, only looked at a computer for about 5 minutes, drank a few beers...

now, it's the weekend!!

Today, I am working in IT alone. Nice that I am trusted enough to do that. I don't have access to the DHCP or Mail servers, so I can't do too much, but hey. I'm probably gonna leave around 3 and get paid for the day, which isn't too bad.

Last night I got a toothache, and I barely made it through the night. Painful. Had to bust out codeine in order to sleep.

Never heard of him. Who is he?

Sulu!

I just re-read the BTATS thread in the Commentary because I merged incorrectly, and damn, I think that was the closest I came to quitting this forum. Ugh.

George Takei (Sulu) just replied to one of my tweets on Twitter. Evidence attached.

That's sweet.  He's an occasional "announcer" on the Howard Stern Show, and he's the best.  Seems like the nicest guy ever.  One of my favorite bits was when Howard got someone to pretend to be Arnold Schwarzenegger and call in to the show to defend the latest California anti-gay-marriage initiative.  George became apoplectic when fake-Arnold started saying some obviously absurd and offensive things.  Some of the things being said were so over-the-top it should have been obvious to any sane person that the call was a joke, but George was so upset he never figured it out, and he continued to try to debate fake-Arnold to no avail.  He was a good sport when they finally let him in on it and told him the call was phony.  I literally had to pull the car over because I was laughing so hard.

I remember hearing about that. Nobody's ever said a mean word about the man, as far as I can tell. He is, of course, a passionate defender of gay rights, as he should be. That's the only time I've ever heard him be anything close to acerbic. But he seems very much universally respected. That he'd take time out of his day to reply to a slightly sarcastic comment from a nobody like me really reinforces that.

God knows, the only thing I've ever really done online is get linked to by a few small blogs.

I feel bad. And if I never apologized Per, I'm sorry.

That was pretty ugly, and I certainly put my share of fuel in the fire. I think I have more to apologise for than you do, so I'm sorry.

I started reading that thread just before you posted. Speaking from experience, I am sure that you have become less touchy about such a subject, 5 years later, and I do mean that as a compliment.

I think we both are. When I remember how angry I was...well. It's hard to think I could have tossed away some great friendships over something so...well.

Anyway.

You guys rock.
