Man. Do you work for the finance director? I would have said it - especially if you had suggested it back when they were looking at new system.
LooseCannon said:Good to hear, EW. I'm not nearly that rigorous. You really should be using a Mac with Time Machine - hourly automated backups.
Anyway. Vista wasn't bad in the way Windows ME was bad; Vista was a huge tech jump (considering it was 6 years later) and wasn't for the average person to configure. On a box that was designed for it, Vista ran great.

"If we had gone to open source, it would be £0"
I really don't think that would have gone down well at all. Considering the finance director was present as well.
Wasted The Great said:Ha! That sounds like things we hear here. "Adobe Acrobat has to be upgraded, thats 25 new Keys".... Open source would be $0.
My backup up strategy? Robocopy or rsync (according to the OS) and backed up to a SD card, USB ext. HDD, a network share and a USB stick. That network share is backed up to a further two separate drives nightly.Wasted The Great said:But, I know how you feel, just keep nursing along that XP box and all will be well!! Back the hell out of it up!! Flash drives, External HDD's, Network drives, your mom's PC....
It was suggested but didn't go down well as there is no knowledge of Linux in our entire IT dept aside from what I know. Besides, the finance director has committed to the capital exp. And the apps that run will have to be made to run on a different OS - in short, it would be cheaper and easier to keep with Microsoft.LooseCannon said:Man. Do you work for the finance director? Wasted The Great said:Honestly, other than some little things, I really do like Win7 better. Some programs just won't run, some drivers just won't work, but overall, it is fairly simple to use once you get the hang of it.
Big mistake. Now I will pester you with any and all Mac questions, large and small. Of course, I have had very few problems with my Macs over the years, hence the fuzzy feeling. The worst is that my 7-year-old laptop sometimes doesn't want to wake up from sleep mode. But, I just restart it, no big whoop.LooseCannon said:As a certified Mac technician
