Yeap, not all of them worthy though. Dubai Mall (where I went and where I usually go) is -they say- the biggest in the world. Personally, I love it, it's one of the few Malls with an exceptionally nice atmosphere
and a top quality of shops. It's difficult to find both. Second I'd say with a big difference the Festival City one. After that, the chaos: There is Mercato & Wafi with nice atmosphere but not that big variety of shops and there are hundreds of other Malls with occasionally some good shops, but nothing special as atmosphere.
As for food, in Dubai Mall, there is the most decent Chinese Restaurant I've been and a few others equally remarkable as well.
Qatar is rising power in Oil & Gas Industry, every month there are 2 -3 LNG Carriers from there in the Dry Dock. No wonder why you've been there. If you'll be in shipping after your PHD (which I wish for you), your main destinations will be 1) South Korea 2) Singapore 3) Dubai /Qatar 4) Brazil
I'd like you to take a look at
this site. It's
the leader among Classification Societies, it's based in Oslo, the working conditions there, are among the best in shipping industry, it has a lot of vacancies for Oil & Gas and it's always in quest for remarkable young scientist like thee.
