Ah, just to point out that generally in Europe, the doner shop owner is usually muslim, so the doners are usually halal meats

"Charlie... Charlie.. Charlie... Chaaaaaaarliee..."
"I'm right here, what do you want?!"
"We're on a bridge Charlie..."

Probably the hardest I have ever laughed at a youtube video.

Actually, in Germany it's usually referred to by its Turkish name, Döner Kebab, or simply Döner.
Pretty much the same here in the UK. Except we don't always use meat from other animals - apparently - if you see what I mean. :D

OK, does any one have a picture of a 'kebab' or whatever?

Thanks! That looks more like what I'd call a gyro (from what I see); lamb or beef (maybe pork), with lettuce, tomatoes, maybe cheese, and whatever condiments.

In my head, a kebab (or shish-kebab)  is on a skewer, has meat, peppers, potatoes, cheese, and onions-- all cut into cubes or chunks and grilled.

It's served the same way as gyros, the only real difference is the type of meat used. Since döner is Turkish, it's veal, chicken and so on.

Yes, Gyros is its name in Greece... Strictly pork there, except in the villages Turkophones in the north, where it's halal non-pork meat

Possibly the tradition of Gyros in Greece is as old as the Gyros itself, so unlike other European countries
the 99% Gyro-shops are owned /operated by locals, not immigrants.

It would be kind of weird over here if a Greek gyros shop is run by a German. All Greek restaurants are run by Greeks, obviously.

But in Germany Gyros-shops are run by Turkish /Kurds /Arabs, as pretty much everywhere else, no ?? And they are Döner-shops.

No, they are Döner shops. Gyros shops are Greek ones.

Ah, the name district, hence the confusion...My point was that gyro/kebab/döner shops in Greece, are exclusively run by locals, which is something unusual for Europe...
And regarding Greeks restaurants : I hate Greek restaurants outside Greece, it's a bullshit. Some Cypriot are good though...

Not in Poland. Most [insert your country here] restaurants are run by Poles.
It can be annoying when I know the foreign terms of the menu and the people who work in the restaurant do not.

Not so indifferent from the states.  Many Italian restaurants run by 'Joe Dude' American.  Authentic Mexican restaurants are more often run by authentic Mexicans.  I haven't been to many Greek food joints, but I'd say that 50% are run by Greeks.
