Apparently, soon after the rehearsals started the band apparently didn't feel like playing ATG live is the right thing to do (maybe the rehearsing didn't go well), so they kept playing Rime instead. It's also important to note that Bruce was still exhausted, so he maybe didn't feel like learning another long song. Maybe H had trouble with guitar parts, maybe Steve felt that ATG wasnt on the same level as Rime...

So probably that resulted in ATG being replaced by Rime early into rehearsals.

That is probably one of the strongest if not THE strongest setlist maiden ever could have had. Definitely for Album tours.

First time I heard they even attempted to rehearse ATG! I am not saying it did not happen, but may I ask who was the source for this? Just curious. :)

I read it somewhere. I'll try to find the source. If I remember correctly, maybe they dedn't even try to play it. I just remember that there was plan of playing it live, but it was aborted during/before rehearsals.

He had, because the song was intended to be played on Somewhere On Tour, but it was switched with Rime at the last minute.
Is this more than an assumption?By this reasoning Maiden intended to play Shadows of the Valley. Or is that just a guess?

It isn't. I read it somewhere. Will try to find the source...
There was a forum post (not this forum, another one... name escapes me) describing Nicko's Frankfurt drum clinic from 2011, the poster gave a very detailed breakdown, including one point in the talk where Nicko described rehearsing ATG and Janick offering to play Adrian's solo, which elicited some blank stares from the rest of the band :D i'll see if I can find it.

sorry, it's from metalsetlists.com's forum, which is now offline :/ I tried pulling it up at web.archive.org, but it doesn't have much beyond the front page archived
