Listened to these back to back on the way to work this week. I honestly don't see what there isn't to like about Killers. It's a similar style to the debut but with that classic Martin Birch production plus Adrian Smith who plays some really memorable solos. And all the songs are good IMO. There's a lot of really great interaction between the guitar and bass that doesn't get talked about nearly enough. I love Steve's lead approach on this album.

Voting again for Strange World, Ides, Twilight Zone. Also voting for Prodigal Son and Genghis Khan - both great tracks, just not as great as the rest of the list.

Same again, but with Purgatory replacing Twilight Zone.
How long will Strange World remain?!

People are really eliminating what they've not seen live. Not everybody and not consciously, perhaps, but the total result shows.

Strange World and Purgatory are exceptions (at this point!). Played in 1981 for the last time, and hardly in the limelight afterwards. A different version of Strange World appeared on Best of the Beast in 1996, and that's it; these songs did not have a position on a(nother) compilation, setlist, or videoclip or any other form of appearance. Still these two are not in the danger zone yet.

Thing is with Killers is that it has no absolutely outstanding tracks. I love the title track, but I wouldn't put it on the same tier as Phantom personally. It also suffers from a lot of fairly average tracks for Maiden standards (notably the ones that just got eliminated this round). It's still a good album (as are all Maiden albums with the exception of NPFTD for me), but not as complete as their other work.

You can't just reduce our opinions down to live show familiarity. If that were true, the song most played live in the band's history, Iron Maiden, wouldn't have 8 votes right now. No, Foro, sometimes songs just aren't as good as other songs. The fact that they haven't played some of these songs often, or put them on later compilations, says a lot more about the quality of the songs than our reception of them.

Chicken/egg
I think Maiden plays the songs they believe to be their best or most popular.
In a lot of cases it actually reflects what the fans think too.

I didn't say all songs apply 100% to this theory. Naturally, people can get tired of some overplayed songs, or they vote for them because they like them less. There are always exceptions.

I'd say this is more about popularity than quality.

I assume there are also other reasons to choose songs. Whatever they are, they don't always have to do with expectations of others. Alexander the Great is probably the most asked, and it was never played.
