I still do not understand the lack of love for "The Trooper." Yes, it is overplayed live and in recent years hasn't always sounded great but it is an all-time classic. Without it, I'm not sure Maiden is nearly this big. Its blistering opening riff defines heavy metal. Should at least be in the top 5. And don't get me started on "The Number of the Beast."

Usually, in Survivors, only one or two "fast" tracks make it this far. The Trooper is a fantastic song.

Ridiculous way to react to my post. Flat out ridiculous. I'm explaining that my voting for the Trooper wasn't about being overplayed with a simple post that describes my level of appreciation for it and you come up with a very constructive and valuable response. Well done.

I'm pretty sure there's an ignore button on the forum, you might want to use that for me if that's how it's going to be. Enough already.

I don't see how Wasted Years (or any song for that matter) being played live often has anything to do with anything.

Well, it's repetition. So, because the human mind is essentially the same as the mind of a dog, the more we hear it, the more we grow accustomed to it, the more we like it, you see. If it was not played often at live shows (regardless of whether we have attended those live shows or not), then we would not like it as much.

Well, my remark started out as a dry (and funny meant) comment, contrasting the more mysterious content of Saap's remark when he said "There's something about it". :--)

But at the same time you have heard me before with this opinion.

It is just one of various factors, one I believe that indeed can influence appreciation. It varies per person, but I am sure it plays a part in the total sum.
So? I don't see the Trooper on this list.
Perhaps some voters have not seen that song enough to appreciate its strength.
Or Number of the Beast. Or Run to the Hills. Or The Evil That Men Do.
These are on albums with popular epic songs. Most of them have also been on the setlist in fairly recent tours.

Wasted Years is a great song! Very melodic and catchy, and not too complex. ;-)
But it also benefits from certain aspects why it takes on the rest of Somewhere in Time single-handedly. It was written by Adrian Smith, he sings on it, and it's the only one that was played often, let alone played in the last 10 years. Also, it has a popular video clip with countless Eddies, a hilarious playback version on 12 Wasted Years. Both studio and live versions are featured on various video releases.
Basically: The deafest hermits in Pakistan have not only experienced but also know Wasted Years.

Infinite Dreams, Sign of the Cross and Paschendale were played longer ago but all are featured on DVDs, released in the time of this line-up.

Again: this doesn't have to be decisive, but I am sure that a measure of exposure can help one's appreciation.

Calm down! I'm just not sure why you feel the need to state your exact ranking of every song of every band and within each album!

Welcome to a forum, people like to do that. No need to give them grief over it.

@Forostar I'm leaving for school now but I'll respond to your post as soon as I get home!

Because almost every time it adds something to the conversation from my perspective. It's not like I pull a Stardust and come out of nowhere, say that a random song is my 6th favorite on whatever album it's on and ask you guys to discuss about it. Besides, my beef certainly isn't about you asking for the reason why I do it, it's about you doing it by writing a disrespectful response. "Ok."? Seriously? This is a discussion board, not an innuendo competition.
