That bit's not so bad. It's when they have man and dinosaurs walking the Earth at the same time that it all goes wrong.

Come on guys, it's a song about a bunch of Neanderthal men running through prehistory. At a running time of 3:40 and a limited amount of lines, you have limited possibilities of describing the setting, so it has to be striking. Hominids and dinosaurs living at the same time is not historically accurate, but it gets the picture across. There is much worse around, including the film itself, where it is suggested that homo sapiens and Neanderthals interbred.

When you have a song with amazingly deep lyrics (Revelations) on the same album, as well as songs about intense warfare and mythology, it's hard to take that song seriously due to the subject matter. To Tame a Land would be the same if the music wasn't so awesome.

I love deep, poetic and meaningful lyrics, but why does everything always have to be so dead serious all the time? Quest for Fire is obviously intended as a bit of fun.

I agree, but I don't really care for the vocal melodies of the song, either. They sound sophomoric to me, especially when compared to the majority of the album. I have nothing against fun lyrics -- you're talking to a guy who once wrote a song called Deinonychus about a pack of raptors hunting people down on an island.

I used to be bothered by Quest for Fire's lyrics starting that way, but there are many pieces of work that shows dinosaurs and humans living at the same time and it most of the time done for comedic effect or adventurous nature.
