El Dorado can't really be set as an example for a new song that was premiered first live and then on record. Maiden put it on the website one day before tour started.
That's true. I remember frantically refreshing ironmaiden.com while in chat and then listening to the song on repeat for weeks.

Now, concerning new material...

Wildest Dreams on the other hand could be a good example. A best of tour announced late autumn in '02, followed by Maiden going to studio Jan - Mar '03, tour starting May '03 which premiered song that was officialy released as a single in Sep '03. I could easily see same scenario happening.

Also, when I say single, I don't really mean actual single per se, like in actual physical format (on CD or vinyl) that could be sold. It could just be new song, released on Youtube or some other media service. Look at the Last Chapter, the whole Book of Souls deal is over, you can buy the audio, but the video is on their Youtube page completely free. It could be that Rod and the managemant sensed it would be more usefull putting on some things for free so they could sucess in some other areas (for example, something new released this May via their webpage to lure the people that are still on fences about the tour).
Also, the Christmas gig at the Ruskin Arms in 1981 - breaking Bruce in- contained songs from the forthcoming TNOTB ("Hallowed Be Thy Name", "Run To The Hills" and "The Prisoner").

Of course, I don't count it when the tour started before the album was released (at least TNOTB, possibly Powerslave too, if I remember well. Plus the Innercity Tour which started before NPFTD was released)

So August 11 is as of now the final show in Europe. When then is the most likely beginning of the rumored North American tour does anyone think?: definitely after the 1st of the year 2019, or is it possible they take less time off in between? Say mid September October of this year....take off a month or two and back at it.. any hints, quips, rumors, blurbs, clues, educated guesses...?

I doubt it. They said the tour is expected to continue in 2019, and we know all european shows are announced for this year.

We only know European dates so far and I imagine they will do NA, SA and the major Asian, Oceanian and African markets at some point. What’s to say they don’t do at least one of the Americas this year and then next year be more of a round the world trip, potentially with Ed Force One, covering everywhere else? Rather hoping this doesn’t end up like ME when 2012 was very short (only one continet) as that could leave them with the option of a third year again!

So you still need a physical single to chart? El Dorado was a proper single with art, it won Grammy etc but it was digital only AFAIR

The rules on digital vs physical have changed (probably not when El Dorado was out) but there are still rules on length and how the single is made available.

These are the criteria for the UK charts. The later "singles" were only available on youtube and that doesn't count

"The full regulations may be downloaded from the Official Charts Company website (see "External links", below).

To qualify for inclusion in the UK singles chart, a single must be available in one or more of the following eligible formats:

  • Digital audio download music track of up to 15 minutes
  • Digital audio stream music track of up to 15 minutes
  • Digital single bundle of up to four tracks with a maximum of 25 minutes playing time
  • CD with up to two tracks
  • CD, DVD or other digital memory device with up to four tracks with a maximum of 25 minutes playing time
  • 7 inch vinyl with up to three tracks or 12 inch vinyl with up to four tracks, and up to 25 minutes playing time
  • One song and any number of remixes up to a maximum playing time of 40 minutes
There are minimum sales prices for all formats apart from on demand digital streams which may be from subscription or advertising funded providers. The streams were initially counted at 100 streams equivalent to one paid download or physical sale, but changed to 150 to 1 in January 2017.[68] Starting with charts published 7 July 2017, tracks by a lead artist eligible for entry in the top 100 would be limited to three. The streams-to-sales ratio for tracks whose sales (including streams) have declined for three consecutive weeks and have charted for at least ten weeks is changed to 300:1 to accelerate removal of older songs"
