Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

I don't know if I am deaf or just don't notice the difference between production and mixing of the albums but all of them sound good to me.
At least you're honest! lol. Serioulsy, there is a huge difference across the catalog but if you're a) old or b) gone to too many metal shows without hearing protection, or, worse c) both !, well you probably have lost a lot of high-end hearing and the tinnitus you're used to is obscuring the midrange lol

I am not old, but I have been to many shows without ear protection. However, I think I am just tone deaf. lol

Mixing is more than "Oh that guitar is way to high!", "It needed more bass" etc. When you mix stems you amplify them negatively by a big amount cause volume adds up. If you don't it will clip which is called a hot mix and is exactly what maiden and many other bands do

The only "reunion" album that really stands out production wise (albeit in a negative way) is DOD. It was brickwalled during mastering almost to the point of clipping. Zero dynamics. And because of that I prefer DOTR versions of the songs.

I don't think people are tone deaf as much as they consume their music via a shitty reproduction.

It's like saying 'all CGI looks the same', while constantly watching webcast quality movies on a tiny device with a shitty screen.

The whole “tone deaf/if you have ears/etc” argument regarding production comes across less as a good-faith argument and more of an elitist argument. I can understand being very into “sound” and hearing things you don’t like. What I don’t get is the desire to tell everyone else how they’re wrong about what they do or don’t enjoy listening to.

There’s an objective take and a personally take. Objectively TXF has a much less professional production sound, but personally I think it sounds great.

Are you an elitist if you talk about colors in front of color blind people? If you insist that red, green, and blue really are different colors when some people can’t perceive the difference between pairs of them? Or are color blind people who insist those colors don’t look any different just failing to understand their own limitations?

Do Christmas decorations look drab and samey? If you’re red/green color blind, they probably do. If you’re not, they obviously don’t. Is anyone wrong for stating their own perspective in that circumstance?

BOS just sounds strange and muted to my ears. Once it gets going and you lose yourself in the album then its OK. But if a BOS tracks come up on shuffle especially with other artists playing beforehand, BOS sounds prehistoric.
Exactly right. You can hear how truly awful that Album sounds when individual songs are mixed into a playlist. It always blows the mind how a band with no limitations could end up with a finished product being so sloppy and lazy. It's almost like they don't care how it sounds.

well i'm old ! i've been using ear protection at shows since '91 when i saw Queensryche and had ringing in my ears off and on for about 3 months !

^ ps all these comments (i started ??? ugh lol) about sound quality bring up a very important point. like George Lucas with his prequels, having nothing but "yes" men around you can be pretty damaging to your product. have no idea what it's like inside the Maiden inner circle, but all enterprises need some objective yet informed feedback. you need to hear something sucks when it does, you know? thankfully, most of what they've done since 2000 has been pretty awesome...but perfect?? nobody can say that.

Now we can say it. NEXT WEEK we'll have official details about the new album and most probably the first new Maiden song after 5 years and 10 months!

I must admit I'm slightly worried that the album doesn't live up to the hype of the marketing.
I've never worried about Maiden's new albums. They always deliver.
It’s a lot to maintain over the course of two weeks. All the major rock blogs have reported on it already. At a certain point, people (not on this forum) will stop paying attention until there’s something more, like an album cover or a single or something. Will Maiden continue the slow drip of the same clues until a big reveal on the 15th, or will we start seeing some actual substance ahead of the supposed date?
2 weeks are not such a long period of time. They already created big hype and easily can go without other clues/hints until 15/07, methinks. The countdown started from the fans - the interest will not fade. Maybe the Twitter account will drop more clues (or the e-mail)...
Honestly I like KS produced albums sound.
Me too.

I like that the sound/production of all Maiden albums is different.

Production-wise, I think Shirley's way to capture Nicko's drums (especially tom-toms) is MAJESTIC. Especially in TBOS and TFF!

This to clarify I'm not a generic complainer. I only criticize what I struggle to like. And some guitars sounds on When The River Runs Deep make me shiver, in a NEGATIVE way.

That being said, if I'll end up to like #IM17 at least half as much I love TFF, this record is going to be huge, for me...

Can't fuckin' wait...

Hope title/album cover leaks sooner!!!
