In all honesty I don't think that the whole fan base is anything but average. What happened here is that these are independent forums started by above average IQ people and administrated by same class of people and therefore rules set by them favour the same group. The active group of people of these forums is, for sure, higher than average in the brains department.

There is definitely a sample bias. When I actually go to Maiden shows the audience doesn't strike me as being that much different from any other arena rock crowd, for better or worse.

Yeah and I don't think that Maiden's lyrics are overall more "intelligent", eye opening or whatever, than say R.E.M. Or Sting. Or tons of other acts.
