Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

I am really looking forward for No 17, but on the other hand, I have a slight amount of fear. Because... After BNW all of the composing is divided between Steve, H and Bruce, with no real help form Dave and Janick.
So, I'm sure that Dave would write another pointless song with slow guitar/bass intro, Janick would write another acoustic intro epic and one more song which sucks, and one of the songs would definitely be named after some Bruce's solo work, like for example "Starchildren" or "Machine Man"... I like most of the post 2000 albums, but after BNW a lot of things they do became a bit predictable. So, I can only hope that Steve/H/Bruce trio would be at their peak for some new ideas.

That would be refreshing, certainly, but no matter what Maiden do, I don't think it could be truly "terrible".

Janick has become such a great songwriter, though. "The Legacy", "The Talisman", "The Book of Souls"
Not denying his songwriting for Dream of Mirrors, Ghost of the Navigator, Silent Planet, DoD, Pilgrim, Legacy, Talisman, but most of them are epics with acoustic intros, exept those where Janick wrote music with Steve. On the other hand, there are songs like Shadow of the Valley, Gates of Tommorow.

For me, Janick is always been a great songwriter and he should write more than 2 songs per album. I think it is time Janick to write a song all by himself - Bruce, Steve, Adrian, Dave (and even Nicko has a songwriting credit on one song) all have songs that are written only by them.

Don't wanna be misunderstood, I really like Janick's songwriting, in fact, two of my top 5 Maiden songs are ones where he was a co-writer... It's just that I think he and Dave got a bit lazy after BNW, so I think that for the next record Jan will write one epic with acoustic intro, and one song that would be a filler. And Dave will write only a filler.

"Shadows of the Valley" is good, don't get me wrong, but as a whole it's the least outstanding song on the album. All the rest have a little something extra IMO.

People consider SOTV filler and I don't understand it, it's a great song.Whats with the hate on that song?
It was recorded in the wrong place at the wrong time. TBOS is full of impressive songs, so it's hard to stand out for a "simply great" song.

Shadows of the Valley is much, much better than When the River Runs Deep and The Man of Sorrows.

Slow intro part of Man of Sorrows is very good, emotional, but the rest of the song is weak. WTRRD is very catchy, I was sure they were gonna play it live. Instead, they put TGU, which I also like, but it has something missing, like Face in the Sand. It seems a bit undefined.

I like WTRRD a tad bit more than SOTV, I like all the songs on TBOS but the weakest to me is TMOS(still a good song to me just not as good as the others), besides a portion of Maiden's 90's material I like all of Iron Maiden's songs, each song has a merit of it's own, especially some cool solos (Maiden almost never goes wrong with solo's) but yeah I really enjoy those 2 tracks of The Book of Souls.

Same thing with SOL but it's a great song and it sound great on the album, SOTV is fine being on TBOS.

Shadows Of The Valley is my favorite song from TBOS album - I feel sad for all of you that you still do not felt the greatness of this ''mystic'' (perfect for the theme of the album) song, with one of the best song titles ! ::)
