Iron Maiden Sells Half of Their Catalog, Name And Likeness Rights to Pophouse Entertainment

I lean to the side of optimism on this and like the quote Snarf posted, it's a turbo charge, not a retirement aid. Fingers crossed anyway.

In terms of a money grab, yeah, maybe they are super hungry for extra cash but also they employ a lot of people, friends and family, I guess. This could secure employment in the industry for many of those friends and family rather than them having to get real jobs when the band stops playing music.

I get the cynical take, I really do and maybe I'm being naive but it's too damn hot today to be negative.

Also also, am I blind? I haven't read 'half the rights' anywhere but this thread.

I certainly don't want to see a Maiden hologram show. Not until they are all cold in the ground and by that stage I'd probably pay top dollar to have a taste of The Good Old Days
Not even when they are no longer present... still remember the ABERRATION it was with Dio. It's AWFUL to say the least.

The positives I can see coming out of this are live concerts from the past being released and the Eddfest museum becoming a touring exhibition similar to "Pink Floyd: Their Mortal Remains" and "David Bowie Is." I don't see a hologram show like ABBA Voyage working - the visual attraction would be Eddie, not the band.

In terms of them saying they'll stay in their lane and let the band do their thing as a creative unit? I'll believe it when I see it, but I have my doubts.

The concept of Run For Your Lives with new technology and a greatest hits set is what a Pophouse tour would look like. Big visuals and all the favorites to maximize the income. The Future Past as a touring concept wouldn't fly with that mission.

I can't in a month on Sundays believe that Pophouse will pick songs for an Iron Maiden setlist.

In terms of hologram tours. They've always instinctively made my skin crawl. And I made a joke about it earlier but honestly, in say 20yrs, I'd probably go to a Maiden one. Never thought about it in depth until today but there you go. Still, I'd also be happy if it never happened.

I will say ABBA Voyage is fantastic. My jaw literally dropped at the intro of the show at how lifelike they made the band appear.

Travelling to see a Maiden hologram show or Kiss show? Why? I saw the real thing. I never had an opportunity to see the real ABBA because they broke up a decade before I was born.

I would never, EVER, go to something like this.
It's sacrilege and an insult to live music.

My personal expectation is no new album but a tour in 2028 hopefully covering the reunion era plus the usual fan favourites. Of course a new album and tour to follow is quite possible instead in 2028.
I don`t see this announcement changing those options to be honest and anything beyond that, who knows.

This is about keeping the name/brand alive and yes making money during downtime and eventual retirement but there won`t be an hologram shit with Maiden so let`s not get hung up on that for the next 2/3 years.

This is surprising and big news, I thought Maiden wouldn't do that, but I guess they want their retirement to be settled. This news are kind of ''in clash'' with the comments of no retirement soon. Or? Their plans to remain the same is very possible.

I just hope that this selling won't affect their own choices for tour concepts (especially different stage designs), songs selection (I can't imagine that) and stuff. Basically Pophouse to not have any say in their decisions, just to help recording stuff/filming shows, museums, archive releases... such things.

Rod talks about finance their many plans and dreams quicker and that the interest in the band has never been bigger.

''The fans can be assured there is a great deal more to come for Maiden, and Eddie will rule, OK!!''

I guess we can expect something with Eddie in the virtual worlds and stuff.

I really can't argue with any of that but I'm just having strange, alien thoughts today, things I've never considered. 70yr old me might be happy with any kind of night out at some kind of Maiden event. Probably be happy with watching Rock In Rio on a big tv, in fairness.

It's more the concept of the tour. It wouldn't be like "Nah, dump Killers, put in Icarus, it paces the set better." The deal is stated as being 50/50, but Pophouse doesn't generally enter into these deals unless they get a controlling interest.

If the group convenes at Maiden Towers and comes up with an idea of "We'd like to do a 40th anniversary of Seventh Son tour where we play the whole album and then do a bunch of rarities we hadn't done since the 80s", Pophouse could probably throw some cold water on that and order up a second round of RFYL.

As a counterpoint, this model of working with *current, existing* bands isn't something Pophouse seems to have done before, nor have they done a 50/50 split before as far as I can tell. They have a vested interest in NOT looking like they're controlling the Maiden band and making them change their creative output unwillingly, because if they do, it pours cold water on future, similar deals.

Honestly, I think the motivation to make a deal to begin with isn't "I want someone to respectfully nurture and caretake our brand" but "You're writing a check with a lot of zeroes? Mint. Where do I sign?"

Maiden have been ramping up their licensing with products a lot in the last few years. This is the natural next step. License their name out to a big company who can slap it on anything they want.

Also, if the Infinite Dreams experience was their handiwork, I don’t have high hopes. It wasn’t the best. Interesting, but nothing special.

Also, am I the only one who doesn’t give a flying fuck about Eddie? Can we please just get back to the music?

I still like how one of the selling points for Burning Ambition was "New animations of Eddie!"
