So, “shades of 10“...? Doesn’t that make your 10/10 lose some meaning?
This right here is why I'll never give a song or album or any work of art a perfect score. Because if one thing is 10/10, then there can be no other 10/10's. How are two completely different works of art perfect? How do you compare? How do they both exactly have the same amount of perfection. It's not possible. I will never rate something 10/10 because it's just not logical.

Legacy, Clairvoyant, Only The Good..., Heaven Can Wait, The Loneliness....., Stranger In A Strange Land.

You could think that there are various degrees of 10/10 songs. Some of them are better than others. 9,6 and 9,8 both round up to 10.

For the Greater Good of God, The Legacy, Moonchild, Only the Good Die Young, Heaven Can Wait

The Legacy vote is tactical, trying to protect Lord of Light.

Then 9/10 becomes the new 10. I get what you’re saying but I think 10/10 doesn’t have to mean “perfect.” To me it’s more along the lines of “I enjoy this to the full degree of which I can enjoy music.” Rating everything a 10 does devalue the process though and shows a lack of critical thinking.

Totally agreed.

And this is mostly what I was poking at to understand the thought process. I don’t disagree that some songs are going to get rounded up to a 10, and when push comes to shove you can point to certain ones that you like slightly better than the others. It just felt a little weird for @KidInTheDark666 to point out that he thought certain songs were 10/10’s, but then express relief on the next round that some of them had gotten chopped instead of his “favorites”. If the delineation between them is that clear, then are they all really 10/10’s...?

I wouldn't be sad if the other 10/10 songs got promoted instead of the ones that are doing well now. I generally don't like comparing "perfect" songs to each other, but in this case, I have already ranked all the AMOLAD songs, so I was just happy that the ones I put just a tiny bit above the others survive.

I totally see your point. I don't hand out much tens at all, but now we're talking about my second favorite album by my favorite band.

Lord Of Light
The Clairvoyant
Only The Good Die Young
Sea Of Madness
Stranger In A Strange Land

“Loneliness...” has become my favorite song from SiT of late. Hope it sticks around for a while.

Upon relistening to this album, I realized my least favorite songs mostly had ridiculous lyrics, and were all written by Harris. This album really shines instrumentally and a lot of the weaker material is held up by some exciting instrumental sections. To the point where it’s easy for me to get caught up in the instrumental parts of weaker songs and want to give them a pass. To that end, Adrian’s songs are easily the best, the most well written, and the most well rounded. They have great instrumental sections and excellent vocal parts. His tunes really carry what otherwise would’ve been a clunky album. Bruce is the weak link, delivering a half hearted performance that is improved with reverb and other studio trickery. I dig the soundscape of this album, although there are definitely areas where the fancy production covers mediocre writing and performance.

I vote for Heaven Can Wait, Loneliness, Deja Vu, and Alex. All songs that suffer from the issues I mentioned above. Caught Somewhere In Time almost has these problems, but just barely overcomes them. Great instrumental work, solid vocal parts in spite of a tired sounding Bruce. One of the more exciting openers musically though.

Alexander has a fantastic instrumental section. If that was the whole song, it’d be the best song on the album and the best Maiden instrumental. However, being bookended by lame vocal parts, I have to vote for it

I generally believe giving art numbers isn't correct, or even seriously comparing songs. Don't like to reduce it to "hmm, the production is 10, the first verse is a 6, the lyrics are 1 who wrote this". How can I feel serious writing this stuff? There's some system where if it makes you happy it's 10, sad is 6, using the major scale is 7 and having Bruce on vocals is an extra point (unless it's a Tuesday)? It's an overall feeling, it's affected by everything that make who you are today different than who you were yesterday. The numbers are arbitrary...

Anyways, R.I.P Breeg :goodbye:. This is my favourite album, and I'm definitely rooting for Stranger in a Strange Land, Sea of Madness and Caught Somewhere in Time/Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner.

Lord of Light (in an effort to save The Legacy)
The Clairvoyant
Alexander the Great

Stranger In A Strange Land.

My selection from SIT was different, but I absolutely agree this album gives the impression of Steve being dominant and Bruce not being into it. There are moments (including the 'time is always on my side' lines in CSIT) where Bruce almost sounds like he's taking the piss and singing in a silly voice just for the heck of it. He isn't mouthing the words properly in places. It reminds me of the goldfish impressions we used to do in school assembly because it was so uncool to sing hymns.

I completely agree with @Mosh. This album has never sat right with me and has some of the weakest vocal sections, partially due to composition and partially to performance.

The instrumental sections are absolutely amazing, but it really goes to show what can happen when the singer is not into the recording (and/or being kind of a turd).

Voting for promotion, everything off SIT except first two tracks + Stranger. Don’t really care about CSIT, mostly looking to ensure the safety of Wasted Years and Stranger, which are easily the standouts. And 10/10s.:devil2:
