Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

I sold also alot of Maiden stuff the last couple of months. Only kept my very special favourites.
I certainly understand the change in stuff attachment thingy.

Im touched! Aye, sellin to fund travel fun. Maybe I'll regret it but I just don't feel the same attachment to stuff as I used to. The money will serve me better than a collection of unused vinyl, I'm sure.

Glad to hear that’s the reason. :)

I am planning on selling several Maiden T-shirts over the next weeks as I no longer feel attached to those pieces of cloth that I rarely wear nowadays.

I never sold any of my vinyls. But I don't owe them either. They are spread in various places in various countries. Same with other personal stuff of mine such as guitars, books, notes, drawings etc. During the years many of my records have been sold by others who also pocketed the money. In the end things belong to those who need /take care of them.

I used to have a very nice Maiden collection that I ended up selling off almost completely because of money problems. The only items I kept was the Man on the Edge box that I had been tracking down for years and really did have some attachment to, and a few items nobody wanted to buy.
Ten years or more down the line I could get a collection back together, but I don't have the desire to anymore. Even then I felt that it didn't really enhance my enjoyment of the music, and almost all my possessions have been stored in boxes in a storage compartment for five years now and I haven't touched them since.
Just about the only thing I'm contemplating is buying rare Maiden items as a sort of investment or inflation-proof deposit. But this seems to be the way almost all collectibles are treated these days, so I'm not sure it would really be safe.

I've stopped collecting records and objects: (1) because it is an almost impossible task with Maiden, (2) because I never succeeded in buying The soundhouse Tapes, (3) because I find it pointless now. But, on the other hand, I've developped a kind of obsession with paper: tour programs, books, magazines, mainly when containing an interview with Harris. A few years ago, I've bought a huge collection of old fan club magazines from a fan who had financial difficulties, due to health problems. I think this is the only time I've felt bad for buying something, although I ended up giving a bit more than was asked.

Nice!

Thanks but I felt like shit all the same. The guy had to quit his job because of cronic health problems and had to sale his beloved collection. He sold me magazines from the 80s and you could see from their perfect condition how much he cherished that stuff.
On the other hand, if he was forced to give up them up, it’s lucky that he found someone willing to take care of them and appreciate them as he did! That way it’s able to live on even beyond him. :)

I don’t consider myself a collector in the sense that I’m a completist or have to have everything ever made by an artist, but I have been slowly but surely building up record, CD, and laserdisc collections because I find physical copies to be more enjoyable to engage with than digital. Records I can put on when I have free time; CDs are great because my car doesn’t have Bluetooth. I like to have a wide variety of stuff because I have a fairly wide taste and I never know what I’ll be in the mood for. I’ll pick up a death metal record at the same time as I’ll get a Gordon Lightfoot and Eminem album. And then I play them and let them sink in a bit and enjoy them.

I "went digital" sometime in the late 00's and sold off my entire CD and DVD collection, including all my Maiden stuff. I figured there was no point since I could just store all my music on a hard drive and those albums were just taking up shelf space. Even better when streaming services came along.

I've regretted it ever since though and I began to miss that tangible connection to my music. So over the last 5-6 years I've been slowly building my physical music collection up again on both CD and Vinyl.

CD''s in particular are cheap as chips on eBay and I've been able to buy back most of what I sold, including my Maiden collection.

Unless I'm in absolute dire financial straits I'll never let go of my physical music again.

I started collecting Maiden vinyl releases to go with my complete CD collection of theirs, and as of about a week ago I now own the all the albums on CD and vinyl (live and studio, except for Donington, as it was never rereleased one vinyl and is expensive) and at least one copy (preferably on vinyl) of every single. There’s still some odd ducks I’d like to collect such as:
Soundhouse Tapes (either original vinyl or the re-released CD version purchased with proofs of purchase)
First 10 Years Box set (vinyl or CD)
Live at Donington on vinyl
Edward the Great on vinyl
Best of the Beast on vinyl
And the other singles that had multiple formats, like the Man on the Edge cd box sets and shit like that. According to my Discogs profile, I have a total of 125 individual Maiden items including all my vinyls, CDs, DVDs, BluRays, and box sets.

Is that the Senjutsu Eddie but with the Final Frontier “key logo” sticking out of his helmet?

I think it's the good old 2011 Japan Event Shirt Samurai Eddie.

Wow, Iron Maiden won almost all categories in the annual voting of the German Rock Hard magazine.

Honestly, I only voted once. :D
