Hints collection thread for 2023

The fact that some people think they will ditch Senjutsu tour for SIT revisited tour boggles my mind.

Senjutsu tour is already pretty much comfirmed (by Nicko, but hey, albeit not as reliable source as some other band members, I tend to believe him). Also, Nicko said that they will probably play ATG on Senjutsu tour and it's entirely possible that they are dropping SIT hints to build even more hype for that.

TWOTW + ATG + SIASL = Adrian Smith's solo showcase.

Exactly. People are running too far with these "hints". If Maiden did as you described and played ATG and SIASL on the next tour that should be enough to drive people wild, but what will probably happen is people will be disappointed now because they have hyped themselves up into thinking this is a dedicated SIT tour.

Personally, I think that we could end up with nothing but I think, if you forget about easter eggs and clues and just listen to what Bruce and co. have outright stated, then there has been enough talk of ATG, and lesser so, SIASL, to think there may be something in it. People need to just calm down on the hype so they don't disappoint themselves.

With all the clues and speculations at the time of Belshazzar's feast, we know they like to play with this to create hype, it's a trademark Maiden. If I think about that period ... it is the same as this. Everyone gives their opinion, like me ... Senjutsu + SIT, dvd / cd, beer, merch, or whatever. After the cancellation of the show in Bologna, you know, Rod said it was impossible to reschedule the concert for this LOTB leg but we will return to Italy next year. Add to this the presence at the Wacken, so the sure thing is that they will be on Tour in 2023. Everything else is part of the game. I already mentioned that Maiden never played less than 5 songs on an album tour so everything points to the Senjutsu tour. The Somewhere in Time clues in my opinion keep hype high, maybe I'm wrong but an album tour creates less expectations of an anthology tour. The main suspicion is ... there is still no name for the next tour. In my opinion, this is where doubts arise. You are right, all this could be absolute nothing and everything we have been saying for some time could only be a disappointment. After all, it is fun to play these games with the imagination. I think there will be some surprises anyway and just "the thought" of listening to ATG makes all this heap of words, fantastic !!! do not you think. In the end, nothing changes if it's a mix tour between Senjutsu and Somewhere or something else. Basically, I think we will all be under the stage and this is a certainty !! Cheeers.

Kevin Shirley said that he has a great relationship with the band and that it is a big, difficult task to make an Iron Maiden album, a lot of work, a task that involves many brain cells.
I have never understood that he meant to say that the Iron Maiden members are difficult people.

I found it notable that in almost all recent interviews the band members mention Kevin Shirley in praise.
Bruce also said in his Metal Hammer Germany Interview that with him they know it works and how it would be with someone else they don't know.

For me exactly the other way round. Sure, there's great reunion material, but I became a fan in 1985, so I especially like their 80s stuff. (I was a ten year old in 1985, and I was sitting at school not paying much attention to mathematics but drawing Iron Maiden stages in my files during the lessons :D I think I did hundrets them...)

And it's interesting: I went to school with Maiden shirts as a ten year old, and today I usually go to my job with Maiden shirts.
I was also 10 years old, but it would be unimaginable that I would have been an Iron Maiden fan.
I was a very stupid kid. I only played the songs that the teacher at music school had for us. I also had no opinion about the songs. I didn't like them, but I didn't dislike them either.

I'm pretty much doing the same things now that I did when I was ten. Loving Iron Maiden, playing guitar, collecting Maiden shirts. The only thing I quit meanwhile is smoking cigarettes.

Bruce said they did not want to focus on a new album during lockdown, when Senjutsu was already recorded and waiting to be released.
Yes, that's right. But, they had plenty time to write and compose new songs last year between january and july (+ during the lockdowns). OK, Bruce has done his speeches everywhere in Europe and in the world, Adrian has worked with Ritchie Kotzen and Steve was busy with British Lion and some other stuff, but in between they could really worked on something that they will record next year or in 2024. Don' forget that Bruce has also said that they had ideas for a next album, but they abandoned the booking during lockdowns because of the lockdowns. Nevertheless, they had ideas for a new album so it's not impossible that they have written new songs and booked a studio for the beginning of the next year. After all, they'll begin their new tour something around may or june 2023, and they usually don't need to book more than a month in the studio to write song and record them as they are real professionals. . ;)

As far as Shirley's difficult comments go, I always took that as meaning the process was difficult rather than the band members.

The way that Maiden record these days, recording live, doing sections of songs at a time as they learn them, means that Kevin has a TON of technical work to do.

He's having to take these seperate recordings and stitch them together to make them sound like a band playing through the song. Maiden don't like playing to a click track, so there's inconsistencies in tempo and no grid to work with, making it even harder. Making the transition from one taken to another sound smooth can be very difficult especially with differing tempos.

Frankly, it's an absolute pain in the arse to work that way, which is why as far as I'm aware no one else does it, so I'm not surprised Kevin has said its been the most difficult record he's made.

From all accounts there was very little written in advance of Senjutsu, Adrian had some stuff but most of it was them (mainly Steve) writing in the studio.

I think Senjutsu took 2-3 months to record (would need to look back at the old threads and figure out when the earliest and last sightings were)

Bruce believes they are tho

But we are difficult to work with

Or maybe Dave Murray took charge of writing all the material this time... :D

With Janick and Nicko. :D
IMHO Janick is, on the same level with Steve, the greatest songwriter in Maiden. Most of my favourite Maiden songs have Gers involved in writing. As a guitarist I don't like him that much like Dave or Adrian, but at least he found his place on stage along with the others. And that took many years. I remember times when he really appeared like out of place, but thank God they have overcome that.

He's one of my favourite band members too. Not because he's an excellent dancer, but because he co-wrote some most epic and emotional songs ever recorded by Iron Maiden. Each time I'm listening to these songs, they gave me goosebumps.

I don't think he's working on the master for a new Maiden album. If you read the name of the master it's called "Magic Ark". It's not a name for a Maiden song, LOL. It could be a name for a Bruce Dickinson solo track, though. BUT, I rather think the project on which Kevin Shirley is working right now is maybe something related to Joe Bonamassa and something like that...

Santorini has a great studio. Bonamassa recorded black rock there and I think Harris's daughter has also recorded there. But maybe I am wrong for her.

No, that doesn’t make sense. Kevin was the one who convinced Maiden to record live, not the other way around.

I won't be disappointed because I'm happy with whatever Maiden play, but speculation is always fun and keeps us ''busy'' with something before the final leg of LOTB tour. Alexander The Great is indeed enough to drive people wild, it's about time.
maybe I'm wrong but an album tour creates less expectations of an anthology tour.
Not for me, but you have a point. Maiden will not skip Senjutsu tour and the only reason why the Wacken date is without a name of a tour is because LOTB is not over yet.
Nevertheless, they had ideas for a new album so it's not impossible that they have written new songs and booked a studio for the beginning of the next year.
They always have ideas (demos). I think they will book a studio in 2024 at the earliest.

Maiden are all fantastic songwriters.
