Guitar Hero Iron Maiden!!!!!

I have to admit that the quality of Zare's posts (which was always high anyway) has gone even better !!
The example of 'smells like a gypsy' was very clever -but as LC told very correctly, it's a matter of 'circle of trust' as well

I recall now CFH one year ago after the unforgettable 4x100 natation final had said 'screw you frenchies'
...It was funny and out of good heart, and nobody bothered -But what if US had won vs Isreal ??  :censored:

You see what I mean? There's too much panic about anti-Semitism, really too much!
Yet it's all over now, Jewish they have their state -a very powerful one,
and Jewish abroad they are generally very well placed in the societies, so why all this panic, why this ultra protection ?

When it comes to Maidenfans, the response would have been the same regardless of the racial or homophobic, or whatever, slur used.  That I can assure you.

I don't think it was the use of the word Jew, as it was just the ignorance of the context in which it was used and directed. Maybe the guy meant it as a joke. But I think it was in poor taste. You could sub any other slur, either blatant like the N bomb, or subtle as Jew and i think that the reaction would have been the same. Myself being an American of Irish/ Itallian/ Hungarian decent, I would'nt have mind if he called me a Mick Dego Wop Hunky. But someone else could get bent out of shape. It is really all about comfort zones. I myself find a joke funny if it is a funny joke and not corny. But on the other hand you get someone who would be offended at a joke about ethnic groups, no matter how hilarious it is.

Our job is to enforce the rules - that's exactly what we did.  It's not about protecting people from offense, but keeping a community standard.  The standard, nor the way it's been handled, hasn't changed in all the years I've been moderator here.

let me recap most of the above.

Haven't you people figured out how this works yet? We simply ban people we don't like. The forum rules is just a prop we use to justify it ;)

Alright, I'm sick of this.

This forum has rules. You agree with these rules when you sign up. You are expected to read and understand them. If you break the rules, you get punished. If that wasn't the case, it would be silly to have these rules in the first place. Those who punish the people who break the rules are the moderators, i.e. us.

One of the rules we have is no racism. "No" means zero, nada, none at all. We don't give a fuck if it's Jews, Africans, Russians or Japanese who get targeted: It's all the same. Zero racism. And we are strict with these rules. It is an offense that leads to banning, and it is clearly stated in the forum rules.

END OF STORY.

By the way, you should step back and look at what you're doing: You are forcing the moderators to justify their acts against racism.

@Perun : I don't think you understood what was my point exactly (which was that we are by far more sensible when it comes to jewish), but alright, maybe in another thread another time...

Rascist or not, he should be banned for getting us all excited over the prospect of Guitar Hero:Iron Maiden
I think this is the cause of most of the people's distress. I know it is in my case.  :D

The Mods have a tough job to do. They have to READ EVERY POST. No matter how boring or distasteful. Then they have to hear it from us NO MATTER WHAT ACTION OR INACTION IS TAKEN. I don't envy them.

Here's a real question : what sucks more, racism or Guitar Hero?

Oh I had the same reaction to the title of the thread as you did Ohnell. With all the songs they are putting into the Guitar Hero franchise, it'd only make sense to put out an Iron Maiden Guitar Hero. Hopefully it will happen.

As for calling someone "A Jew" is different than someone stating that " I am a Jew." The former is hurling an insult at someone, where the latter is someone identifying themselves as a person of a particular race. Usually my Jewish friends or coworkers will say " i'm Jewish". They don't usually say "I'm a Jew." It's all about the context.

I guess I am less sensitive for (a non offending use!) of that word.

I don't recall anyone ever being banned for remarks about homosexuality, but it could have been in the period when I was not an active user.

Without continuing the discussion, I want to say that I respect the decision of the mods. I only wondered about some terms (and the use of it). Thanks for the explanation, LC.  :ok:

I think that guy was joking.

Actually, if someone said that Justin Timberlake smells like gypsy, nobody would comment on that. 1.5 million gypsies died in Europe during WW2.

I don't think he was joking at all. I don't call strangers racial slurs as a joke, my friends is something different.

And it is ROMANI btw :p

Hmm, am I the only one who would very disappointed with a Guitar Hero Iron Maiden?

Surely they deserve better than to have their game made with little effort put into it?

Compare The Beatles: Rock Band and Guitar Hero 5. Then come back and tell me that Maiden deserve to be in Guitar Hero. I would personally see it as mockery of the band. Neon colours, sub-par graphics and badly thought out Downloadable content compatibility? Its like serving a turd with Iron Maiden written on it. A turd sold by a supermarket who put out similar turds with other band names written on quite regularly with the same quality.

Oh, and any company that goes to the lengths of having a playboy advert made for their game does not deserve money imo. If Harmonix did the same job they just did for The Beatles for Iron Maiden I would be more than happy.

I like Rockband Metallica... Not only is the setlist more than ok, it is actually challenging...
