GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

I can't say I disbelieve the official version. But how does it reconcile with the fact that Halford was out of Priest for a long time, afterwards?
Well, the bridge was burned and had to be rebuilt. Resurrection was an actual, conscious step along that path (plus the fact that Rob had come to the realization that 2wo was ridiculous). He was sort of, partially, sending Priest a message.

No room for improvement at all in “Metal Meltdown”? Really?
Maybe only the chorus. Nothing more in the whole album!
I gave Painkiller a spin and here's my conclusion, in order of appearance.

Top-tier Priest songs: Painkiller, Hell Patrol, Night Crawler, Between the Hammer, A Touch of Evil, One Shot at Glory
Good songs: All Guns Blazing, Leather Rebel, Metal Meltdown
I would add ''All Guns Blazing'' to the first category too.

He was sort of, partially, sending Priest a message.

Disclaimer: I haven't read any info at all about Judas Priest or Rob Halford.

However, I do remember that Rod Smallwood was Halfords manager at the time, and he was actively pushing for a Priest reunion, off the back of the success of Bruce's return to Maiden, and Halford fired him over it, so I'm not so sure there was any such message in Resurrection.

This is quoted from Rob's statement on the very thing you're mentioning:

“What I’m sure all of you will be pleased to know is; I have been periodically working on my relationships with Ken, Glenn & Ian since 1999, but we are certainly not at the stage where we see ourselves working together any time soon. The 1992 break-up took a lot out of us, and we are taking our time in mending our personal friendships."

Again, the bridge was burnt and it needed to be rebuilt, and subtlety sure has a place there. If Rob claims he was partially sending them a message I'd believe that, especially considering how Halford describes himself and the relationship with the band in the book (running away from conflicts etc). If he was to push for a reunion in the way Rod wanted then the band would likely push back and Halford made it clear in the book that at that point in his career, he wasn't going to get pushed around.

Judas Priest is victorious in both pairings, ending Dream Theater's run and reducing Metallica to two.

Voting Bruce in the first match and Sabbath in the second. But I really don't feel good about that second match lol. And I'm really nervous about the first. God this round is terrible.

Don't know how I'm gonna go on this.

I have a stronger attachment to Chemical Wedding, but honestly Paranoid might be better (and more influential).

I have a much stronger attachment to Brave New World, but Heaven and Hell is better.

:S

honestly Paranoid might be better (and more influential).
Honestly New York City might be bigger (and more cosmopolitan) than Topeka. I mean....duh.

And yes, the analogy is apt. Chemical Wedding is an enjoyable, mostly unknown album that Bruce made while slumming between stints with a real band. Paranoid is the most important metal album of all time. Plus, it’s awesome and incredibly creative. War Pigs + Paranoid + Iron Man + Hand of Doom + Fairies Wear Boots >>>>>> everything Bruce has ever done as a solo artist.

I am personally leaning towards Sabbath for both. Although Sabbath for the first one might mean a harder decision next time.

Sabbath probably has the better albums in both cases. I went with the opponents, more for personal connections and to rail against play classics.
