First match is a no-brainer —
Metallica is often catchy and sounds great, but it’s also simplistic and uneven, and doesn’t really match the caliber of records it’s starting to be put up against.
Screaming For Vengeance is, for my money, Judas Priest’s best album. Almost all of it kicks ass, and by the time it reaches the end I just want to hit “play” again. Sorry,
@MrKnickerbocker, but mcKornfed Joshie’s FTBman’s nominee is made of metal, while yours is the plod that failed.
Winner: Judas Priest
The second match is a lot tougher. Both of these are great albums that scratch very different itches.
Images And Words has a lot of variety, with consistently great musicianship and very strong songwriting. “Pull Me Under”, “Metropolis Pt. 1”, and “Learning To Live” are all awesome, “Take The Time” has a cool funky groove, and “Another Day”, “Surrounded”, and “Wait For Sleep” let LaBrie loose in his true element, cheesy-ass ballads that you can’t help but love.
Painkiller is an entirely different animal, an album where everything’s either a shreddy high-octane rocker or a heavy-but-catchy single. The title track is an all-time metal classic that comes out of the gate at 11 and basically never lets up, “Night Crawler” and “A Touch Of Evil” are great, and “All Guns Blazing”, “Between The Hammer And The Anvil”, and “One Shot At Glory” are all really strong too. “Hell Patrol” is also pretty good, but “Leather Rebel” and “Metal Meltdown” are definitely a lot weaker than the rest. I could probably go either way here, and I’m tempted to go with Dream Theater because I’m sure there’s going to be major Priest bias at work here; but if I’m honest with myself, I’d probably rather listen to
Painkiller if given the choice. So, sorry MrKidInTheCollinbocker Travvie’s The Drashident Yaxman999, your album was worthy, but I’m going with The Flityn DJ Karljamckinata CollooshmaaxidInTheMoshednight Protowlerbocker’s choice here.
Winner: Judas Priest
