Venom - I bought this album years ago because I liked the title track, the riff is good and the hook is classic, but the rest of the album is terrible, badly played and recorded.

Be'Lakor - The music is pretty good but I really can't accept that it's enhanced in anyway by having indecipherable grunts instead of someone singing.

Venom with the win.

Megadeth - A pretty standard later period Megadeth album but the conspiracy theories and rants are beyond what I can put up with, even allowing for haing a high tolerance level and expectancy of this sort of stuff from Mustaine.

Rush - opinion given before

Megadeth with the win

Alter Bridge - Decent stuff, quite heavy in parts, not as over produced as some of the more recent albums that have featured from them.

Bolt Thrower - Vocal is appropriate for this music, not my cup of tea but pretty good for what it is.

Alter Bridge with the win

Judas Priest - Now we're talking, a flawless album from Priest at their creative peak. Genuine contender, among a few others, for their best album.

Atlantean Kodex - video blocked for me, but I've given my opinion on these before, it's pretty good, but I wouldn't be voting for it if it was up against Turbo or Point of Entry nevermind Sin After Sin.

Judas Priest
with the win.

This Venom album has terrible production and surprisingly punky vocals. The lyrics are cringe-inducing and the songwriting isn’t very good in general, but there are a few cool grooves and nice guitar bits. “Don’t Burn The Witch” and “Sacrifice” probably stood out the most to me on first listen. Compare this to the Be’Lakor album, which has consistently great music and songwriting, but is marred by unwelcome glass-gargling vocals. Thankfully the vocals are a bit lower in the mix and are toward the less awful end of the extreme vocal spectrum for me, so I’m hoping that I’ll find a way past them through repeated listens, because I’d really like to be able to enjoy this album fully. Regardless, compare these two records and @Saapanael ’s nominee is the clear victor. Winner: Be’Lakor

This Megadeth album is a very mixed bag, with a few cool tracks, but a lot of filler and reheated leftovers. I liked it more when it first came out, but repeated listens have not been kind to it. I’m not really a fan of Glen Drover’s style in general — his rhythm playing is nondescript and his solos don’t go anywhere interesting. “Sleepwalker” is pretty good, and “Washington Is Next!” is also good if you ignore the blatant cribbing from “Wasted Years”. “Never Walk Alone...” recycles a lamer version of the riff from “Vortex” and doesn’t really justify its existence. The title track stinks, “Gears Of War” is a recycled so-so track from the video game, and “A Tout Le Monde” is a pointless re-recording of a song that was only 13 years old at the time. “Amerikhastan” is pretty good, but the rest of the tracks are filler. Not a great showing. Compare that to the best record from one of the greatest hard rock bands of all time and the choice is obvious. Sorry, Kidnight666, but I’d vote this way even if it weren’t for own-nominee bias. Winner: Rush

This Alter Bridge album is pretty strong. I like most of the guitar work and anthemic songwriting on display here. I don’t agree with all of Myles Kennedy’s melody and phrasing choices, but he’s a very good singer. Meanwhile, we have motherfucking Bolt Thrower, who offer up a slab of more traditional heavy metal with a particularly dire case of the mumps to go with it. Sorry, @Dityn DJ James, but The Arianadent’s nominee is more varied and is more appealing to my personal taste. Winner: Alter Bridge

This Judas Priest album is thoughtful and varied, handling rockers and ballads with equal finesse. It takes chances, bridging some of the sounds of the 70s with more experimental vocals and the beginnings of what would become their 80s sound. It’s an important album for both the band and the genre that’s earned its place in history. The Atlantean Kodex album has its appeal, but it can’t stand up to a record of this caliber. Sorry, LoosePerun, but mcForosaapandog’s nominee takes this one easily. Winner: Judas Priest

I'm pleasantly surprised to find Be'Lakor are holding their own so well. Really quality melodic take on death metal, verging on proggy at times. They can get a bit samey after a while, but produce music with a beautiful flow and some lovely hooks. Looking forward to their forthcoming album. Apparently there was a brief respite from Covid restrictions in Melbourne for them to record.

Be'Lakor's album is quite ok but while I'm not that much of a Venom fan, Black Metal is absolutely classic stuff and huge leap in heaviness, with songs such as the title track, Countess Bathory, Heaven's On Fire or Sacrifice. These guys were thrash and black metal before that was even a thing. So, yeah, Venom.

Mid 80's Rush is simply boring. United abominations while not being one of the band's best albums features some great songs like the title track, A Call to Arms, Gears Of War or Sleepwalker. Megadeth.

Oh don't you dare... don't you fucking dare. Bolt Thrower.

As I've said before these AK guys have substance. But come one... Sinner, Let Us Pray/ Call For The Priest, Dissident Aggressor and Diamonds And Rust's cover? This is one of this huge band finest early records and that alone is almost a certain vote for Judas Priest.

Farewell Power Windows.
Some awesome sounds and melodies on this one, with one of my favourite songs, Middletown Dreams.
:notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:
An absolute highlight, not only of eighties Rush but in their entire discography. Melancholic atmosphere.. but not too sweet. Just perfect. I love those instrumental parts and synths on it as well. Catchy chorus. Certainly the most striking melodies. And there are many of them. Strong second half, which is a bit comparable with the rhythm in Subdivisions. The passion in Geddy's singing is unmatched!

Rush is a great band, but in my opinion we don't want a Grammy 1989 here.
If the Rainbow debut can repeatedly take out far better albums that are actually metal albums, then all things are possible. The invisible hand will decide.

I would like to point out that Rush fully met the qualifications for nomination here. It’s the title of the game that doesn’t fully line up with the admission criteria. But yes, I fully expect that the albums that aren’t truly metal will be eliminated before we reach the end.

...and “Mystic Rhythms”, which I probably would have used for a sample track next time if the album survived (which it still could, if a few more heroes step up!):
