Well, after quite a long bit of stability, in the middle of the GMAC when albums with roughly the same amount of support whittled each down to create a "best of single nominations" list, we see the amount of offings shoot up in League 7, going from seven per round to thirteen (!) new albums.

The longest surviving album is Richie Blackmore's Rainbow, from League 15. Tales From the Twilight World and Dance of Death linger from League 14.

League 13 was snuffed out when Power Trip went down, and League 12 has but three survivors with The Course of Empire, Watershed, and The Divine Wings of Tragedy left.

League 11 has three survivors as well - Incorruptible, The Final Frontier, and Perfect Strangers. League 10's four are Under the Red Cloud, Surfing With the Alien, Skyforger, and Hemispheres.

League 9 has a single survivor in Those Once Loyal, the League simply not being up to the challenge. Even League 8, our most recent league, only has five albums survive the next league, with 10,000 Days, Apex, The Warning, Alice in Hell, and Burn carrying on.

I expect knockouts to increase as the leagues get better and better, but we will play on into the definitive final bit of the league play for the GMAC!

Mutter is awesome. It’s when Rammstein figured out how to marry their signature style with the catchiest of hooks. Fantastic.

As I said before, I expect great blasphemies on the gospel of metal to be happening when it comes to the next league So, in order of preventing your metal soul to be plunged into the inferno of the infidels let me warn you of certain choices that may condemn you to the scorching flames of false metal :D :
Rammstein - Mutter vs My Dying Bride - Turn Lose The Swans: this win for the German's album where they gave up their sound over a true unique masterpiece is as expected as heretic.
Neurosis - Through Silver In Blood vs Symphony X - The Divine Whatever... : "Yo... this is just noise and the voice sucks and it's boring and breaks my 6 second attention span"... *sigh* such words should be cleansed by fire at the stake.
Alter Bridge - Blackbird vs Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal: I dare you... I motherfucking double dare you, heretics.
Judas Priest - Sin After Sin vs Atlantean Kodex - The White Goddess: AK sure has its charm but c'mon! Sin After Sin is one of the best metal records of the 70's. Anything else than a vote for the Priest is a grave sin against true headbangers' catechism.
Crimson Glory - Transcendence vs Amorphis - Under the Red Cloud: Red Cloud is what's left of a once great band. Transcendence is one of the most underrated heavy/power metal albums ever recorded. Repent for your lack of acknowledgement of this rare masterpiece or suffer the purge, blasphemers!

Plus a curious situation that while not being a capital sin is kinda curious:
Tool - Fear Inoculum vs Anthrax - Persistence Of Time: the only reason I didn't nominate Fear Inoculum is because I don't think it's a "metal" album in its essence. But since it is here we're comparing a fantastic classic album (POT) to nothing less than my favorite album of the 2010's and one of my favorite 10 records of all time (and a worldwide success at all levels). Man... even I who nominated POT for this game will vote Tool. It's that obvious.

Mutter was great, if a bit samey in style. Turn Loose the Swans bored me to death, it just didn't go anywhere. I don't get it.

Superunknown was what I expected, not bad but Badmotorfinger sounded more organic. I don't think Black Hole Sun is that great either. Atlantean Kodex have blown me away with this album, so this is an easy pick.

Anthrax wasn't too great. WIth Fear Inoculum I have more experience and I know I can fall in love with every song on there  (Okay... Except for the fillers and CCT.)

Finally, while I quite like 10,000 Days, it must be stopped before it tramples whatever nominations I have left. Also, what do you know, this Xanadu song really IS as great as people make it out to be ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I was only able to listen to about half of the Rammstein album due to lack of ready availability on YouTube in the U.S., but what I heard was exactly what I expected vocally (not my cup of tea, but not particularly bad in any way), and better than I expected musically (generally more interesting than other stuff I’d heard from the band). This isn’t something I’d ever seek out and want to listen to on my own, but it’s pretty good hard rocking industrial music. Compared to a very uneven album from My Dying Bride that’s peppered with extreme vocals, this isn’t a tough call for me. Sorry, karljagnus, but I have to go with Dr. Diesel Elevenman’s choice here. Winner: Rammstein

I bought this Soundgarden album when I was in college and was completely unable to get into most of it, so I sold it. I liked “Fell On Black Days”, “Spoonman”, and “Limo Wreck”, and “Black Hole Sun” was pretty good but wildly overrated, but that was about it. Stuff like “Let Me Drown” and “My Wave” and just about everything else on that album held no appeal for me at all, and I actively dislike almost everything Kim Thayil does with his guitar. While I can’t say I’m thrilled with this Atlantean Kodex album, it’s still preferable to a steaming turd with a few gems buried inside. Sorry, Larianampwickindog 43, but I shall once again unenthusiastically support @Perun ’s nominee in this match. Winner: Atlantean Kodex

This Tool album offers more of the consistently high quality groovy, slow-burning prog metal that the band is famous for. Meanwhile, this Anthrax album offers more of the poorly written, unevenly executed B-list thrash that they’re famous for. Sorry, Karljavis The Antman, but The Midflight’s choice is the obvious winner here. Winner: Tool

This last match is the toughest one of the round, with another high quality Tool album going up against one of Rush’s better albums. The Tool album is probably a little more consistent overall, though it does have some extended atmospheric sections that can interfere with its pacing. The Rush album has higher highs with excellent tracks like “Xanadu”, “Cygnus X-1 Book 1”, and “Closer To The Heart”, but it also has less exciting fare like “Cinderella Man” and “Madrigal”. I could go either way on this one, and I would be fine with either album advancing as they’re both worthy — but in this case I’ll lean toward the higher highs. Sorry, @Spambot, but I’m going with mckidnight’s nominee here. Winner: Rush

I guess we can safely conclude that doom metal is not popular (among the players) on this forum.

Turn Loose the Swans is widely regarded as a pinnacle in the genre.
A Rammstein album is beating it here.

peppered with extreme vocals,
Am I the only one here who gets tired of these constant complaints on non-clean vocal work? I realize people may not like 'em, but I do not constantly need to read this handicap. Non-clean vocals are part of the metal genre, by far and wide integrated in several subgenres, since the eighties. They often fit the music and atmosphere. There are several grunters/screamers I do not like but I'd never disqualify all music containing non-clean vocals, whichever variety is present.

I guess I better skip such posts from now on. It is getting predictable.

It’s a shame they went up against each other. I’d have loved to see it go farther, but Mutter is a favorite of mine.
