GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

I would like to believe that Firepower will act as a firewall against Virtual (although Firepower isn’t really that worthy either), but at this point I’m expecting the final matchup to be Virtual vs Nostradamus.

Maiden beats Saxon.

I really don't like Anthrax, so Tremonti gets my vote. It's not really my thing, though - I'll probably vote against it next round.

Mastodon is definitely more my style (whether compared to Amorphis or on their own), and Crack the Skye is just a great album in general.

My nomination, Hemispheres, is an excellent album, and is guaranteed to win this round. With that in mind, I'm voting for Gojira. They've grown on me.

I mean that's impossible as we don't reseed.

Not a lot of drama in this matchup. The tiebreaker for League 7 will start tomorrow and go until the midpoint on Christmas Eve, at which point League 6 will commence.

I am considering extending the match length to 3 days over Christmas.

Anything But Nostradamus, but I actually switched my choice in the second pairing. The thing is, I really have no Maiden bias, believe me. But I really like them with Blaze and VXI has higher highs than Facelift, which is more consistent, on the other hand. And it was more about wanting to vote for The Clansman, The Educated Fool, Futureal.... and especially Amigos. Now that is a masterpiece that doesn't have a counterpart on the AiC album.

I'd rather listen to VXI than at least four Maiden albums off the bat - Killers, TNOTB, NPFTD and DOD (yes, despite the latter having my possibly favourite Maiden track ever - it just drags as an album). And apparently, than Facelift. That said, I get the feeling AIC are going to win and I'm fine with that. But I'd like to believe that all the votes for VXI might not just be blind Maiden bias.

If I didn't nominate Amorphis, I'd probably vote for Mastodon. I don't get the remark that they moved from their style on Crack the Skye. To me, then and there, they perfected what they were doing on previous albums. Later one, The Hunter, is where they played it safe.

Also, on having three singers. Each one of them on albums has both his WOW and cringe moments. When I heard them live, Bran was most consistent, what you heard on the album is what you heard live. Troy was more hit than miss and Brent was just bad. This was in 2017, apparently Brent was clean then. This makes me conclude Bran is the only one who gives a damn about his singing, while Troy is more enjoying playing live and Brent depends on his mood.
