GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

I will say that I very much enjoyed Mekong Delta so I won't be super upset if they end up winning here.
Whatever the result, the winner of GMAC League 9, Match 28 must be a nominee for all MaidenFans, not just the MaidenFans who may have voted for it.

With very half assed votes 'cause I came very late:

Priest
Rainbow
Ensiferum - this song actually rocked and I liked what we've gotten from them so far, and they're getting trashed either way so sure. But I probably do prefer VXI much more.

Porcupine Tree - only one here where I listened to the whole song. It feels very free-flowing, like prog but the transitions aren't forced. Notably more metal than In Absentia too. Good and interesting. Mekong Delta feels like they got homework to create a metal song. And maybe then they decided it's so good they can make an album out of it. It sounds like classical music, if that's what they were going for, but it's void of emotion, in one word - it's pretentious.

Judas Priest defeats the only Whitesnake album in the game. They'll next see Murg's album on...what appears to be animal conservation.
Rainbow easily snips Krokus. That's it for Krokus, and it's Audioslave next.
Ensiferum is crushed by Iron Maiden. They're back one more time in League 7.
Finally, Porcupine Tree is barely eliminated (potentially with shenanigans) by Mekong Delta. Americans really do go to Vietnam to die. It'll be Deep Purple's turn to challenge next.

In the 1992 Olympics, Charles Barkley of the Dream Team famously said of their next opponent: “I don’t know anything about Angola, but Angola’s in trouble.” To borrow from Chuck, I don’t know anything about Rosetta, but Rosetta’s in trouble.

EDIT: So is Amaranthe.

Powerwolf is fun, but Amorphis just seems to be a cut above.

God help me, but I may actually vote for Babymetal. Counterparts isn’t my favorite Rush album and Babymetal seems...interesting. Not sure if it’s utterly stupid or completely brilliant. The last time I had a similar thought, it was about the film, Napoleon Dynamite. In hindsight, it was brilliant. Maybe Babymetal will be too. It’s worth it to me to keep them in the game a bit longer

Megadeth might actually get knocked out next league. North From Here is a masterpiece. Also, someone nominated Steelfactory! There's other UDO albums I would have loved to see, but Steelfactory is solid. Make the Move is one of my favorite UDO tracks. I'm also preparing myself for the shitfest that is going to be Virtual XI wiping out The Return......

Whatever it is that Amaranthe is selling, I’m not buying it. This fake-ass melange of pop, power metal, downtuned chugging, and video game music with Symphonic Girl, Emo Guy, and Bro-Yelling Boy on vocals is like the manufactured, focus-grouped wet dream of some sad Swedish incel. Bottom-third Maiden takes this one in a walk. Sorry, @Travis The Dragon, but @Black Wizard ‘s nominee is the clear winner here. Winner: Iron Maiden

Speaking of manufactured, focus-grouped wet dreams of sad incels, next up is Babymetal. This time it’s a fake-ass melange of pop, EDM, anime theme songs, and a random assortment of metal genres with Jailbait 1, Jailbait 2, and Jailbait 3 on vocals. The songs that use harsh vocals and blast beats are completely ridiculous, but stuff that hews closer to symphonic and power metal like “Megitsune” and “Ijime, Dame, Zettai” works better. I can’t figure out if this is an intentional joke band, or some crass corporate experiment. It’s not as bad as Amaranthe, but it’s definitely not good. Much like the last match-up, even bottom-tier Rush mops the floor with this. Sorry, @Midnight, but @matic22 ’s nominee wins this one easily. Winner: Rush

Next up is the toughest match of the round for me. This Powerwolf album isn’t their best work, but it’s still one of their stronger albums overall, and it’s got a couple of killer tracks in “Demons Are A Girl’s Best Friend” and “Killers With The Cross”. The first half of the album is great, and the second half is still good, albeit derivative. Meanwhile, we’ve got a very consistently strong Amorphis album with a very limited amount of harsh vocals. I find almost all of this album appealing and want to spend some more time with it, but it could really use a “no harsh vocals remix” like that Cynic album got. I could really go either way here, but the Powerwolf album has higher highs and none of the unnecessary extreme vocals, and I’m still stinging from Lupus Dei’s elimination. So, sorry @Spambot, your nominee was worthy, but I have to go with @KidInTheDark666 ’s choice here. Winner: Powerwolf

This Rosetta album is a little different. I guess it would be considered post-metal? The vocals are non-melodic screamy garbage, but they’re so low in the mix that they don’t really have the opportunity to get on my nerves. Unfortunately the music layered on top of them is so-so alt-metal that’s good in places, but often doesn’t hold my interest. And also unfortunately for them, they’re up against a top-tier Rush album that they have no hope of realistically competing against. Sorry, @karljant, but @Midnight ’s nominee takes this one easily. Winner: Rush

Amaranthe - over produced to within an inch of it's life

Iron Maiden - opinion given before

Iron Maiden with the win

Baby Metal - I can't help but think this stuff is aimed at paedos, I'm not accusing anyone who likes it of being a paedo, but there is definitely a chance if you go to one of their gigs that you might be standing near a paedo

Rush - opinion given before

Rush with the win

Powerwolf - ten a penny eurometal

Amorphis - opinion given before

Amorphis with the win

Rosetta - intro ok but the drums sound bad, vocal bad again, don't know what this genre is called but bands that have lads screaming over needlessly long chillax songs is another genre that is ten a penny in this game

Rush - Gave the album a full listen after the last round, pretty good, all those 70's Rush albums are fairly similar, at least the ones I've heard.

Rush with the win
