GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

I don’t know what to vote for in this round. Paranoid is megasuperultra influential, godfathers of metal etc. I just don’t feel that interested in the songs, don’t know why. Chemical Wedding is probably Bruce’s best solo album but apart from the title track, it doesn’t keep me interested for too long.

Second pairing is tough as well. I’ve never listened to Heaven and Hell in full. BNW is very good, but not Maiden’s best. Dunno who the hell I should vote for.

It's a double loss for Black Sabbath as Bruce Dickinson & Iron Maiden move on.

Round of 16 Matchup Set:
Bruce Dickinson - The Chemical Wedding vs. Iron Maiden - Brave New World

That one isn't going to be that hard. CW is an amazing BD album, but I'd choose BNW over it any day of the week, and not just because of the songs themselves, but does CW have bloody great drum work? No, and it does not have the Maiden reunion chemistry BNW is positively vibrating of.

but does CW have bloody great drum work?
Yeah it fuckin' does dude. Such a pummeling record drum-wise. BNW is mostly compiled of stock bits from the Blaze era. It sounds great, don't get me wrong, but it's not one of Nicko's most stand-out performances whereas Ingraham isn't keeping anything back.

and it does not have the Maiden reunion chemistry BNW is positively vibrating of.
...but it does have the amazing chemistry of Dickinson / Z / Smith / Casillas / Ingraham, which for my money is better than any chemistry Maiden ever had. Everything sounds meticulous, like they know exactly what they want to do. AoB was a lot of fun, and now they've honed in a razor-sharp vision of metallic perfection that makes for the most incredible hour in music history. It's the fucking best album ever bro bruh breh brie labrie aww fuck it's dream theatER again

Voting Reign in Blood over Seventh Son cuz are you kidding me? Under half an hour of the most intense metal experience with some of the greatest compositions the genre has ever known vs a concept album that doesn't even go all the way. No contest.

Second match could go either way for me but I voted Ozzy just cuz Randy Rhoads is one of the most incredible guitarists to have ever lived. Although nothing on Blizzard is quite so good as "Seasons in the Abyss", but they're really close.

First one easy, SSOASS is shared 1st for my favourite Maiden album. You can't deny that Reign in Blood is great, but I've never been that sold on Slayer. Maiden takes it..

Second one ... well, I've never been that sold on Ozzy's solo career either, so let's give this one to Slayer.

Iron Maiden/Slayer

Pretty easy matchup. Reign in Blood has just a hair too much filler for me to vote it over one of Maiden's, and metal's, greatest.

Neither album in the last matchup is particularly exciting. Again as I said with the British Steel/Master of Reality matchup, this matchup is more a contest of who's gonna end up losing to the likes of Powerslave, 7th Son, or Painkiller. Seasons and Blizzard do have songs I highly enjoy though like Skeletons of Society, Dead Skin Mask, Seasons title song, Mr. Crowley, and No Bone Movies.

Easiest round in quite a while. It will take me longer to mash up the nominators’ names than to make a decision.

Slayer is all cool riffs and attitude, and basically nothing else. The soloing sucks, the vocals suck, and the songwriting mostly sucks. I guess the drumming is pretty good. But across all their entries in the GMAC, these guys are pretty consistently strong and weak in the same areas, and the weak areas far outnumber the strong ones. I am fundamentally unimpressed by the band and would never choose to listen to one of their albums unless my only other options were worse.

In the first match this mediocrity is being put up against Iron Maiden’s finest album. Sorry, fat Slayer GIF dude, but your heroes just got red-misted from a football field away. They just got obliterated so badly on the merits that I feel sorry for them being put in that position in the first place. And sorry, Whoosrfeljant, but you wanna know the truth, son? Lord, Dr Periallsrfmatic’s MrCollatarFlashjerman’ll tell you the truth — your choice is gonna burn in a lake of fire. Which they would probably enjoy, all things considered. Winner: Iron Maiden

While the second match isn’t quite as big of a blowout, it’s still no contest. It helps that the Ozzy Osbourne album actually has some great songs on it, and there’s no comparison between the two when it comes to singing and soloing. Sorry, Whavis The Drooten, but Srfcorned Fick’s nominee has yours going off the rails on a lame-ass train. Winner: Ozzy Osbourne
