In my opinion, Brave New World is the best album, because all of the tracks it includes are masterpieces, the sounds are better than on other albums. I would say that it's also one of the most important albums (Bruce and Adrian rejoined the band and Maiden was once again the biggest heavy metal band on this planet!).

Other places vary a lot. [!--emo&--]/unsure.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'unsure.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

I over-worked my list and here it is... my new rating [!--emo&:)--]/smile.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'smile.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

1. Dance Of Death
2. Virtuell XI
The Number Of The Beast
3. Fear Of The Dark
The X-Factor
4. Somewhere In Time
5. Brave New World
No Prayer For The Dying
6. Seventh Son Of A Sevent Son
Iron Maiden
7. Powerslave
Killers
Piece Of Mind

What do you say?

I voted Brave New World. The whole album sounds like every song is an epic. Listening to the album, you get the feeling that its the music of the gods. It was also the first Maiden stuff I heard. My mate gave me a lend of the cd overnight and I swear to God, I was actually squirming in anticipation as to when I could next hear The Wicker Man again. Hearing some of their earlier stuff, somewhere in time is the only other album I have never, ever got tired of (with the exception of sea of madness)

I don't understand why there are relatively few Maiden fans who listen to the Blaze Bailey stuff. Virtual XI was shite with the exception of The Clansman (at the moment my favourite song but only when sung by Bruce) TXF has to be one of the most touching albums in heavy metal. When you hear songs like Fortunes of War and Look for the Truth, you cant help wondering at the futility of it all.

Dance of Death went along the lines of Brave New World, but for some reason seems more operatic and does not reach the heights of its predecessor.

There were a few songs on NPFTD that I liked, namely Holy Smoke and Running Silent, Running Deep. It is not what I'd call a bad album, but it's definitly not up there with other Iron Maiden stuff

BNW, First maiden album I heard, At first I really liked the old maiden stuff better, mostly Somewhere In Time & Piece Of Mind, Later It was actually Killers & Powerslave, but since I liked jan so much, but also davey & H, I really started gettin' into the newer stuff, with all three, and now I favor BNW & DoD...

So I voted BNW, here's My Rank Also:

1. Brave New World
2. Dance Of Death
3. Somewhere In Time
4. Powerslave
5. Killers
6. 7th Son Of A 7th Son
7. Piece Of Mind
8. The Number Of The Beast
9. Fear Of The Dark
10. Iron Maiden
11. No Prayer For The Dying

I Don't Count Blaze... I Just Don't [!--emo&--]/mad.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'mad.gif\' /][!--endemo--] .

And for example, albums rated low like Iron Maiden, doesn't mean I think they're bad, they're Brilliant, But stuff higher up just got to me more...

01. The Number Of The Beast
02. Powerslave
03. Piece Of Mind
04. Dance Of Death
05. Killers
06. Somewhere In Time
07. Brave New Wordl
08. Fear Of The Dark
09. Seventh Son...
10. Iron Maiden

It's a realy hard question... but I voted for somewhere in time

The feeling of this album is so special... and some songs (stranger... - Alexander... are so great

i am really undecisive on my vote but i would have to say powerslave because my favorite song is Aces High. the top ones would be

powerslave (really catchy songs and great riffs and solos)
piece of mind (really where harmonizing started playing a big role in there sound)
brave new world (great new sound with 3 guitars)
dance of death (same here but better solos and orchestra included)

then i would have to say the next best are

seventh son (great synth)
somewhere in time (good sound and good synth)
killers (love the fast rhythms and technicallity)
number of the beast (great new sound with bruce added into band)

the not so great ones were

fear of the dark (good. new sound but not too great. several good songs)
no prayer (too much same sounding songs, few good songs though)
iron maiden (not too fond of the sound but HEY it was in 1980 give em a break with the equipment..)

and then there was the blaze era.....yuck

i dont know what maiden was thinking writing such soft slow songs during this era id have to say that virtual XI and X factor are the worst albums maiden has produced

well....thats just what i think [!--emo&:P--]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

keep old school metal and old rock alive and keep on rockin fellow headbangers!!! [!--emo&--]/headbang.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'headbang.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

I'd just like to add, there's no orchestra in DoD, it's keyboards, played by good ol' 'arry, and they're present in BNW as well...

Piece Of Mind!
It has always been my favourite Maiden-album.
Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son is almost as good as Piece Of Mind. Those two albums are my favourite albums.

Number of the Beast is the GREASTEST metal album ever!
Nuff said.

[span style=\'font-size:14pt;line-height:100%\']1.Number of the Beast [/span]
2. Dance of Death
3. Brave New World
4. Iron Maiden
5. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

PS: Sorry to barge in on Perun's post like this, but I wanted that notice at the top of the thread for all to see... Perun's original post now follows.

=====================================

Obvious, huh? This is perhaps the most popular poll here, and I think it should be there. Here is my own current ranking of Maiden albums (remember, things like these change from time to time):

Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
The X-Factor
Dance Of Death
Virtual XI
Piece Of Mind
Brave New World
Iron Maiden
Somewhere In Time
The Number Of The Beast
Powerslave
Fear Of The Dark
Killers
No Prayer For The Dying

It's pretty obvious I have to agree. You will see all manner of different albums and their reasons for them. So my ranking has to differ I'm afraid. I don't like the "Blaze era" at all. It must be because I'm a South AFrican. Here goes anyway.

Somewhere In Time
Piece Of Mind
Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
Brave New World
The Number Of The Beast
Iron Maiden
Fear Of The Dark
Dance Of Death
Powerslave
Killers
The X-Factor
No Prayer For The Dying
Virtual XI

That's a rather silly reason to not like something! I sure hope you've given Blaze a fair chance - my experience with Maiden has been that Blaze's songs are different, but not bad. There are a few which are lackluster, just like Bruce has a few (more than a few!) songs that are pretty mediocre or worse.

I guess what I'm trying to say is...what's the real reason for disliking Blaze?

7th Son of a 7th Son.
Because I think it's the album who had the most beautyfull harmony between guitars, drums, bass and vocals.
All the songs are 'kin great!!!!

The thing for me about NOTB, I don't like it as an album as much as I like other like BNW, SiT & DoD, but it has some of the best maiden songs ever like run to the hills, the prisoner, number of the beast and probably the best maiden song ever, hallowed be thy name!!!

My vote goes to Piece of mind. It's close between that one and Iron Maiden. I must admit that i like the albums with Paul Di'Anno a lot more than most of the other albums.

Same here, POM has "Flight of Icarus" I listen to that before every Auburn Football Game.

"Fly on your wings............like an eagle"

On this board, we respect opinions of all of Maiden's fans. I like Virtual XI, it's not my favourite, but it's still good. Although I sure hope that one day you find it in your heart to give DoD another good listen - I find that No More Lies has some nice musical similarities with The Clansman, and Paschendale is wow.

Sure, some DoD songs were happy (like some songs on every album) but if you consider Paschendale or Face in the Sand to be happy...

Anyway, feel free to discuss ToS in the Solo Projects forum!
