So I was chatting with a friend and he told me that Portnoy quit Avenged Sevenfold 2 weeks ago, but DT wouldn't let him back. I don't even know if he asked to be back, odd news to which I have no substantial backing, merely a rumor.

Yes. He asked them, but they rejected.

I'm 100% sure that he wanted to stay full-time in Avenged Sevenfold. I think they made a smart move by kicking him out, because he drew attention away from the band.

No. He left them to get back to DT, but DT rejected him, and A7X went on without him.
no. A7X only wanted him for the one tour. They will probably boot the guy they have now after this upcoming tour. That seems to be what they are going to do until they find a suitable replacement.

It wasn't just the tour, he drums on Nightmare, but had ZERO input in the song writing. It is odd as I think of all the drummers out there MP was a more than suitable replacement for Rev.

Oh yes I forgot that. I think A7X wants an unknown guy. The reason he is on the album is because he was the Rev's favorite drummer.

Something like that. In the JLB interview I mentioned, he said they plan to spend four months recording (thru early May).

In other words, the album will have "arrived early May". :D (Arrived in the sense of being completed.)

Based on MP's public statements last year: no.

He wanted to tour with A7X through 2011. A7X kicked him out early. But Portnoy never planned to make that his new band.

Portnoy is supposedly working on a project with Neal Morse (one of MP's best friends, and partner in Transatlantic) and Steve Morse (Deep Purple, Dixie Dregs) and Dave LaRue (another Dregs member).

Just to clarify: Neal Morse and Steve Morse are not related.

IIRC, the whole deal wasn't that MP wanted to leave DT, but that he wanted them to slow down a little, right?

I hope his new gig works out ok.

OMG, I'm such a terrible fan I only just got this lol.

And yeah Wasted CLV he just wanted a break (for the whole band) but they wanted to continue, so he left.

http://eddietrunk.com/index.cfm/pk/view ... pid/401816 read the bit about Mike Portnoy at the end. That "secret project" sounds intresting. A super group perhaps?

It could be this:

So I finally heard images and words and I didn't like it much. I loved Metropolis though. I like Awake a lot more. Is there something I'm missing?

I think you should listen to Falling Into Infinity. Sure, it's a lot poppier than the albums you mention, but there's Trial Of Tears in it (and a good shorter song like Peruvian Skies) Sad that you didn't like I&W. Under A Glass Moon is VERY good IMO.
