Tour of the Silent Planet

Imagine a Maiden tour that does everything backwards. Deep cuts, live rarities, stuff from periods outside of the classic songs, but the stage shows rock - welcome to the "Tour of the Silent Planet".

1. Out of the Silent Planet
Instead of a normal concert intro, we jump right in with the first song. The instrumentation is a studio recording, but Bruce appears live, as a dark and silent planetary object looms overhead of him. Minimal lights until the song's beginning comes to a close - then things go dark, and the familiar beat occur - then all the lights break open upon the audience like magic as the entire band jumps onto the stage, and so the concert begins!
2. Futureal
This song utilizes holograms of Eddie to bring it to life, as Bruce engages with one and punches right through him!
3. The Evil That Men Do
Utilizes a holograph of Seventh Son Eddie but is otherwise normal.
4. Prowler
The stage is quickly revamped into a alley-way scene for this and the next song.
5. Killers
As this song comes to a close, the stage goes dark. As people move about setting up the next part of our show, Bruce takes it upon himself to recite some pieces for us...

"Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of disappointed shells that dropped behind.

GAS! Gas! Quick, boys!-- An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And floundering like a man in fire or lime.--
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,--
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori
.”
― Wilfred Owen

“All blood runs red.”
― Eugene Bullard
The stage opens up again, this time to a scene of desperation, of sickness, of fear, of death...
6. The Aftermath
7. Paschendale
8. Blood on the World's Hands
9. The Edge of Darkness

As our war section ends, the planetary object we saw in the opening track returns, bigger and brighter somehow...
10. Brave New World
11. The Fallen Angel
Bruce wearing... angel wings? Fallen angel wings...
12. Lord of Light
13. The Mercenary
Bruce is slinging, I dunno, machine guns or something in that last song to truly bring out the character of The Mercenary. As it ends, he prompts the next one simply:

"Is there a beast? A living breathing beast that unleashes hellfire and damnation?
Maybe there is... maybe it's only in us..."
― partially quoted from William Golding

14. Lord of the Flies

15. Don't Look to the Eyes of a Stranger
As the song draws to a close, the stage goes dark again, only for the familiar opening riff to quick in and unleash...
16. Iron Maiden
Encore? What encore? Fuck that! The show ain't over but there's no special encore to it anyway! They just plow right on into...
17. The Thin Line Between Love and Hate
18. Man on the Edge
19. Blood Brothers
As Bruce thanks the audience for attending, they launch into yet another track they never undertook with him. Thin line? That's this one alright!
20. The Angel and the Gambler
Given that it's not a popular track, the band wanna make it special. The chorus isn't interesting you say? Well, Maiden happen to be pulling up you and a shit-ton of other people onstage to sing it with them! As the last concert-goer leaves the stage, Nicko does some sort of drumbeat and Bruce announces one final song. Is it... can it be... none other than...
21. Wrathchild
What the fuck else were you expecting?

...alright, I lied. There is a fucking encore.
22. Different World
23. Gates of Tomorrow
24. The Wicker Man
During this final song, a really wicker man Eddie appears on stage, and Bruce is thrown into it at the end. Nicko lights it on fire... all is over... doom... despair! ...but he survives to make it to the next show. Gods.

There's a fucking setlist. Maybe now a hoppable one, but it's got a consistent tone and mood throughout. Total runtime going by studio album song lengths is 2:16:06, which factors in none of the live variables, so this could well be a three-hour show in full. I could imagine them doing maybe ten of them in core locations around the world - I mean, it's not the setlist they'd ever come up with, but would I love to see it? Hell yeah.

Isn't this a lovely topic?

Alright, one more.

If Maiden did the third album with Blaze and toured one more time, even though sales and the overall market wasn't looking too good. This is based on the idea of band actually acknowledging some of the biggest issues with Blaze and at least trying to make things go down a bit better. While the set has been built, to some extent, with Blaze's strenghts and abilities in mind, there's also a couple of setlist staples that you'd never really expect them to drop anyway, regardless how poor they end up sounding.

- New song
- A song they haven't played with Blaze before

1. The Mercenary
2. Prowler
3. The Trooper (Blaze did have a tough time with it, but I guess they would have played it anyway)
4. Another new song

Cool concept! I did something of similar nature with "Brave New World history tour" thing:

I toyed with another thematic set, sort of a Brave New World celebration thing. While not exactly a BNW history tour, it's pretty heavily focused on that particular album and era, with a couple of nods a a couple of years backwards and forward. If they'd ever do an era-focused history/hits tour (they won't, but IF they did), BNW would be a strong candidate. Four to five songs from that album with a completely new take on the visual landscape of the stage set. Considering that BNW is loved a lot by all of the current members and it's a very special album for them (and for the fans too), I could kinda see something like this being in the realm of potential possibility in alternative universe.

Yeah, that's not much, but it's still something
. :D

Intro: Arthur's Farewell/something from The Wicker Man (1973) movie
On screens: Futuristic London looms in the twilight. The view moves slowly away from the city, to sea. There, on a lonely island, some rises through above the hills and trees. Lights turn towards the huge wicker man prop that rises behind the drum risers and stage structure. (You can tell that absolutely love the idea of a revised wicker man prop)
1. The Wicker Man (w/ wicker man, pyro, torch - Bruce picks up a torch during the instrumental break and sings the last chorus holding it)
2. Ghost of the Navigator (stormy sky/sea backdrop)
3. Rainmaker/Killers/Wrathchild (with the same backdrop)
4. The Trooper
5. Out of the Silent Planet (w/ pyro, the surprise of the set)
6. The Clansman
7. The Clairvoyant/The Evil That Men Do/Run to the Hills
8. Man on the Edge
8. Dance of Death (w/ torches)
9. The Number of the Beast (w/ pyro)
10. Fear of the Dark
11. Brave New World
12. Iron Maiden (w/ pyro, Eddie)
--
13. Powerslave (w/ pyro)
14. Blood Brothers
15. Wasted Years

But with a proper focus on both BNW and DOD albums and tours and early 00's and the first five years of the glorious re-union era in general, I'd go with something like this:

1.The Wicker Man
2. Ghost of the Navigator
3. Rainmaker
4. 22 Acacia Avenue/Die With Your Boots On
5. The Number of the Beast
6. The Clansman
7. The Trooper
8. Paschendale
9. Lord of the Flies
10. Wildest Dreams
11. Fear of the Dark
12. Brave New World
13. Iron Maiden

14. Run to the Hills

The Adventures in the Final Frontier
Aka. let's make a standard TFF '11 set a bit more thematic, with a focus on space, journey, expedition and whatnot. Bit of a mix between "fixing some issues of the TFF set with one or two exciting additions" with a lot of pure daydreaming and playing with visual and lyrical themes and incorporating them to the original stage show and visual world of the representative album.

backdrop change (The Trooper, 2MTM and possibly DoD out, SIASL and BNW in)
